Hi all,

Has anyone put on a lot of weight since moving to LOS? Whether from too many Singhas (my usual nemesis) or too many chicken green curries?

Spending a few months in Koh Samui, but don't want to pack on the pounds.

What are some really healthy local foods to try while I'm there? Any recommendations?

I plan to join a muay thai gym to really get my fat ass in shape. But I know diet plays a big part too and in such a touristy island where temptation is everywhere, I don't know how easy it is to eat healthy.

If you are one of those people like me who pack on weight easy then yes.. you will get heavier for sure. Thais use a lot of sugar and fat's in their dishes. Its not as healthy as people like you to believe. Some people don't have a problem while others do. If your going to drink then for sure you will pack some extra pounds.

Some tips:

Avoid stir fried dishes

Currie's are full with coconut milk and are fat too

Try steamed chicken with rice

Even the dishes like radna are filled with sugar so its actually hard to get it right.

I spent one month at Wat Tam Wua meditating lost 20lbs. Even away from the wat I lose weight, I walk more, eat lots of fish the whole ones and fewer sweets pies and cakes. I think the key is always moderation not a big curry fan.

It depends of course on your starting point and how bad your food habits in Thailand or europe were before. If your eating habits were good in Europe then there is a big chance that you would not have lost a single lbs at the wat.
