Big C, will be closed for at least 6 mths I’ve been told.. Looks normal from the outside but was burnt out internally. I live very nearby in fact I walked by there today... You have the option of Central Food Hall (very expensive), also villa market (cheaper than Central but not as cheap as Tesco Lotus). Nearest Tesco Lotus is Onnut I think, however there is a Villa Market in Lumpini somewhere. Hope this helps. :jap:

Isatan is now open in Central World across from Big C and they have a supermarket on the 4th floor. It's smallish but has decent meat and veg. They also have a bakery as well.

there was a Villa supermarket in the basement of the Ploenchit Center last time I looked, before the trouble...

Still there as are the ones at Sukhumvit Soi 11 and between Soi 33 and 33/1

To the OP, don't dispair. There are other Big C's around that are reasonably convenient...

For someone like me who also used to shop regularly at the Radjadamri branch, the next closest one (and actually closer for me) is on Soi Ekamai at about Soi 6, which is about a 10 minute walk or short motocy ride up Ekamai from the BTS Station. This store is smaller than Radjadamri, and only one level, but has all the grocery stuff, but less in the way of appliances and larger items.

Likewise, there is another Big C very close (less than 5 min walk) to the Saphan Kwai BTS station (one station north from Ari) on Phahon Yothin Rd. It's a large store similar to Radjadamri with just as many smaller eateries and other shops in the broader building.

But one thing I've noticed: Radjadamri used to have a very good selection of good beef steaks like rib-eyes at very reasonable prices, probably because it was located in more of a tourist-expat area. Unfortunately, while both Saphan Kwai and Ekamai branches do stock some beef cuts and ground beef, their selection is relatively poor.

Re Villa, yes, there are Villa Market in the basement of the Ploenchit Center near Ploenchit BTS and on Sukhumvit Soi 11, near Nana BTS and the Ambassador Hotel. The Soi 11 one is a larger and better stocked store, as is the other Villa near Suk Soi 33 and the Phrom Phong BTS Station and Emporium Shopping Center.

There likewise is a good and newly redone Top's Supermarket at Suk Soi 15, near the Asoke BTS Station.

And actually, somewhat to my surprise, the prices at the Gourmet Food Halls at Siam Paragon and Emporium can be pretty reasonable, and even sometimes lower priced or the same, as the other expat oriented markets around. The two markets above are sister stores, but the Paragon one is larger with greater selection.

Just to note: I don't buy or even price my meats and vegetables there. But for other packaged things, they often have sales and/or normal prices that are very competitive. For example, I like the Doi Kham brand of strawberry juice 750 ml cartons. Their price on that has long been about 50 baht, which has been the same or sometimes better that the same item priced at Big C.

I wouldn't be buying my rib-eye steaks there, however. :whistling:
