There's a serious risk of over-suppression of what they seem to regard as a "minority" viewpoint, in other words traditional American values and moderate politics. If they fail to realise this, the only way to ameliorate the problem will eventually be civil war and/or martial law. So to that extent Butterfly's attitude is only a symptom of the times we live in.

30 million dollars of Federal funds that went to Louisiana before Katrina hit have gone missing. The massive corruption in the state of Louisiana from the top down is what's responsible for the levees giving way and lack of coordination on the part of local FEMA.

That's the question my neo-con niece asked me yesterday afternoon right before I dropped her off on the turnpike. Naturally, I blew it off as the ignorant bleatings of a brainwashed Nazi larvae. But as her wailing visage grew smaller in my rear view mirror, I couldn't help but wonder if she had clumsily stumbled onto something.

The staggeringly high body count in the latest of Bush's hurricanes was a monument to his incompetence, if not his intense hatred for blacks.

Compassionate democrats had looked forward to surfing the tide of human suffering all the way to the 2008 elections. Now, with the number of casualties significantly lower than the 10,000 we had counted on, many of us are left wondering where it all went right.

Granted, 279 dead is nothing to sneeze at. Democrats might be able to milk it for a few votes, but nowhere near what they need to repeal Bush's tax cuts and put the Hillary-Obama ticket over the top in 2008. Sadly, we soon may have to face the undeniable truth that a good deal of people survived Hurricane Katrina.

There is only reaction and counter reaction. I am by normal standard a conservative, but somehow I find myself being in the "hippie" side and the "liberal left". I actually feel more confortable in that side when I see what happened to "conservatives" these days. They are drones without a real political purpose for society. They forced everyone to choose a camp because this is how they work, by polarizing camps and the political debates so they can simplify and be more effective in their political battles. And it works.

The problem I have with the "liberal left" is their inaction. Granted that you don't want to be your own ennemy, but what characterize mostly the "libbies" is their inaction. Conservatives are short on ideas but great on execution. However the left is great on ideas but ineffective on the execution. And it's a shame really.

"Libbies" are sheep to wolfes and unless we want something to happen, the left have to start to take more actions, even if it means simplifying the political debates and demonizing conservatives, because the right wing lunatics are having a free ride and we are as much guilty as they are by not doing anything about it.

Absolutely. A "liberal" tyranny would be as bad as (and even far worse) a facism one. I am not advocating trading one evil for another. I am talking about defending "liberal" ideas to the virulance spread of facism. We become a far worse ennemy if we stand there doing nothing. Does this mean that we need to "compromise" our standards to achieve this ? yes it does. We need to get dirty. Demonizing the right is a priority. Am I the only one to feel the real danger than the NeoCons represent ? Is that too pre-emptive ? probably but I think the danger is too real and the pattern too familiar for not doing anything. We had precendence and we know where it can lead. Should we stop it now or wait until it's too late ? again inaction and bad execution is the "left" greatest evil.

Is that even possible ? the world is way too complex for the masses to understand any of it. The "Elite" only have a small idea of its complexity and only know how to use it for their own interests. Educating the masses is a lost cause. They have a mortgage to pay, kids to take care, a shitty job to maintain, they don't have time to think or reflect on the direction of society. They only lookup to leaders to make their decisions. Changes come from the top, not the bottom. Revolutions were organized not "spontaneous".

The only major question I have is how do we stop from becoming the monster that we are trying to defeat. Maybe we can't and therefore we have no choice.
