Good luck Pagan1, hope the result is what you're hoping for. So the general traight is that things are speeding up although very slowly, down to 11 weeks and 1 day now. With this in mind unless things go crazy for the rest of this month i'm looking like having to put back our flights by at least 2 or 3 weeks. I booked for 10 weeks after the wife had applied, as they were taking around 8 weeks for the visa's at that time. Due to fly 1st Nov but not looking likely. I get 1 free change of date from the air-line so don't want to mess this up, at least i don't have to decide until a couple of days before. Thank you all for keeping this thread alive, without it myself and i guess a lot of others would be completely in the dark.......waiting grumpily!!

Congrats to both of you (Brotch and Pagan1).

Meanwhile, I've arrived back in the UK ... after 1 month of complaining about the heat in Thailand ... I've now got a bad cold due to the extreme climate change (ie coming back to the cold weather) ... serves me right!

Now I wish I was back out there with my beautiful fiancee!

What a suprise when the wife got the SMS today at 3pmish and I comfirmed on the VFS website that the visa now ready for collection, now we have to wait until Monday for the decision!

With so many of us listed on this thread maybe it would be an idea to set up a follow on thread for recent arrivals.

I know M and many others have been here before and know what to expect (for M another winter in the Highlands, 4ft of snow and temperatures down to -18 .......) however there are so many practical things to sort out for those on a settlement visa than just a VV. For some employment, NI number, marriage, food, contact back home, Thai TV, etc etc etc.

Maybe we should name the thread after Tiggerfish as a way of thanks for maintaining the listing. Just need to name it ................

Would love to know how Silverdales has jumped ahead of me in queue though, especially given that girlfriend is 24 weeks pregnant. I have a horrible feeling that our application has been refused and that it takes longer to draft a refusal letter than it does to attach a visa inside a passport. A worrying weekend ahead for me I think, a refusal for me is a complete disaster that will have long lasting consequences.

Good luck Silverdales and Liveforever, at least your wait is over now. Keep thinking positive Yumster and I hope everything works out for you.

9 weeks and 3 days is an improvement on recent times so that is good news, I am hoping that the delays have been caused by the quantity of applications in June and July which included a lot of student visa applications too. If that is the case we might get back to 6 or 7 weeks or is that just me being very optimistic?

Well, things have definately picked up now!

Yumster and me are up next - looks like next week.

Not sure if we should be worried or excited now - bit of both I guess.

Two questions I'd like to throw into the room

Do Fiance visas generally speaking take longer than Spouse visas (purely because a marriage is easier to prove than a pre-marriage relationship)?

How many (a rough % would be interesting to know) settlement visa applicants (Fiance and Spouse) actually get asked to go for an interview?

I haven't seen 'interviews' mentioned much in this forum so my guess is the % is fairly low.

That should give us something to talk about over the weekend!

Well it really looks like things are picking up now.

Great news brotch and pagan1, it only gets better from here on in.

Don't worry about being out of sequence yumster, we've seen it in the past.

The following works for us.

Thai TV DooTV a 2 year subscription for around a hundred quid, less than a pound a week and a huge back catalouge of shows. You need a decent machine and broadband connection though.

Skype for calls back home with a unlimited world subscription means the wife and stepson can talk for as long as they like for less than a tenner a month.

However I would recommend a backup for whatever internet based telephone solution you use as they are all dodgy from time to time, for a back up we use VoipStunt

Mail order Thai ingredients Raan Thai (I've been thrown out of the kitchen, it's a hard life)

To register at a Doctors you need photo ID (Passport will do) and proof of address (council tax bill or utility bill)

Currently struggling with a bank account for someone with no UK credit history though, suggestions would be appreciated.

Also struggling to find a source of B'lah (however you might spell it in English) that the missus finds acceptable, apparently the stuff from Raan Thai is not the same as mother makes.

I have no problems maintaining this list it doesn't take much time and I know how much it meant to me while my wife and I were waiting, initially expecting a 6-7 week waiting time but ending up being nearly 12 weeks in the end.

The wife and I use facebook so will be happy to play on there too if someone wants to set it up.

Lloyds TSB do a current account for new people to UK with a proper visa debit card all is needed id card or passport and proof address I suppose ....they have a dedicated brochure for it In branches

yumster, i'm wondering, isnt there anyway you could put some pressure on the British consulate as your girlfriend is pregnant? Isnt there some sort of provision for expediting some cases for health reasons?
