Kaks Posted July 15, 2010 Share Posted July 15, 2010 Just found this thread, it has put my mind at rest as my wife submitted her settlement application on the 2nd of June and we havn't heard anything yet. Settlement visa application submitted on 6th July, SMS the next day saying the paperwork had "gone to the Embassy" or similar, hoping she didn't make a mistake and it was them asking her to go and collect it from the embassy ! Just had a call from Thailand and visa recieved back today and succesful so it looks like the 7ish week average is holding. Now just have to find some flights and heading over there next week. Due to me being in the UK i decided that it would be easier to use an agent Thai Visa Express and he was worth every penny and took care of everything. Mercury Posted July 21, 2010 Share Posted July 21, 2010 Whilst I failed to save the figures from months prior to the Bangkok unrest (though I may have quoted it in a post), I believe I would have remembered such poor early responses to settlement visa applications in the 2 to 15 day periods. 30 days is actually 6 weeks and 60 days is 12 weeks (business days) and both of those periods, going back to the beginning of June, incorporate the time when there was unrest in Bangkok. The conundrum is whether the lack of applications made allowed processing of outstanding paperwork after the end of the troubles (no real taper to 98%) or whether that performance has since deteriorated due to pent up demand to submit applications in the post unrest period. My guess is that this month and applications made since the unrest will be the only accurate guide. Quite why it takes 21 days to publish figures is beyond me. Also we have heard nothing from the VFS etc, since the application was given in on the 31st May, does anybody know if they are not happy with the application, do they ask more question prior to the desicion? do the ask girls to attend interviews? etc?? or just say no or yes? The entry clearance officers try to decide as many applications as possible on the paperwork alone. If the paperwork shows that, on the balance of probabilities, the criteria for the visa are met they will issue it. If the paperwork fails to show this, they will refuse. Only if there is an area of doubt, but not enough doubt to refuse outright, will they contact the applicant; either for a phone interview or to arrange a full face to face interview at the embassy. VFS are merely a handling agent; they collect applications and forward them to the embassy and then receive passports back to return to the applicant once the decision has been made. At no point are they involved in the decision making. They don't even know the result, as for data protection reasons passports are returned to them in sealed packages.
