Squatters In Korat

Featured Replies

On a recent run from Do Home (Korat) back to Pak Chong Thai via Rt 2310 (road Korat Zoo is on), I noticed a group of folks building hooches in one of the fields. It first looked like someone getting ready to do a construction project but there seemed too many shacks and were too spread out.

Now there is quite a lot of local talk about some interlopers burgling the area and apparently squatting on some land. The Thai Government apparently made them leave Phu Luang in Loei Province.

According to the local land office, the land they have chosen to occupy is not government owned. It is privately owned and fenced.

Anyone living in that area might want to watch their property and possessions.

UPDATE:

The group has apparently formed an organization .. even have a logo and state an agenda.

Recently spotted another "village" that may be even larger, possibly the one the land office in Pak Chong Tai was speaking of. This one is on Rt 304 south of Korat Zoo road. Now both villages have unique flags and signs that proclaim an agenda. Someone who can read Thai will need to translate this as the person who tried to explain it to me has limited English language skills.
