Featured Replies

Travel time cut to 45 minutes from nearly 2 hours - Ferry operator Lomprayah High Speed Catamaran has announced a fastcraft service between Donsak Pier on Suratthani mainland and Samui and between Samui and Koh Phangan. Additionally, there will be direct trips between Koh Phangan and Suratthani.

Nathon Pier will be the point of arrival from Donsak and point of departure for trips to Phangan, according to Kitt Steven Tharaphuti, Samui branch manager of Lomprayah.

Great news thanks for the link.

This will be the best option for sure...

Can someone confirm which beach/pier/area longtails leave from to get round to Haad Yuan? I am wondering how far we need to walk from Thong Sala pier when we get off the Catamaran.

From Thong Sala pier you must take a taxi to Haad Rin (around 10 Km) and then a taxi-boat to Haad Yuan

Well, here's my personal experience:

Thongsala --> Suratthani town via Raja ferry /bus.

* Thongsala pier (Koh Pha-Ngan)

-> sloow rusty old Raja ferry (dep 7:00am)

-> Donsak (arr 9:45am)

-> 15min wait at pier parking lot

-> bus (dep 10am)

-> Suratthani town (arr 11:30am)

Total trip length: 4:30 hour Thongsala-Suratthani.

Cost: 370 Baht (one way).

* Thongsala pier

-> 15min wait at pier

-> Lomprayah High Speed Catamaran (dep 7:15am)

-> Nathon (arr 7:50am)

-> 40min wait at pier

-> Lomprayah High Speed Catamaran (dep 8:30am)

-> Donsak (arr 9:15am)

-> 30 min wait at pier parking lot

-> bus (dep 9:45am)

-> 25min unscheduled stop for driver's lunch

-> after several calls from angry bus passengers to Lomprayah office, driver begrudgingly continues journey - at 50Km/h

-> Suratthani town (arr 11:10am)

Total trip length: 4:10 hour Thongsala-Suratthani (7% faster).

Total time spent waiting at three piers: 1:25 hours

Cost: 550Baht (one way, 33% dearer).

Lomprayah's new "fast service" is highly recommended for travelers who enjoy lengthy stopovers at piers, parking lots and middle-of-nowhere roadside dinners.

where about is the pier in Donsak ? Can u take a motor bike on baord

I used it yesterday.

From Surat Airport. Cost 600 Baht including the mini bus from the airport to Donsak. More expensive than the conventional method.

The mini bus driver drove like a maniac to make the ferry. Speeds of 150 kph at times. Scared the hellout of me.

The boat was quick and a little noisy. 45 mins.

A bit more expensive and providing you do not crash it was a lot quicker. From the airport early morning Air Asia flight anyway.
