I will be arriving at Suvarnabhumi on 2nd Sept at 18:30 and would love to try out the new express rail link. I assume that I'd take the train to Makasan and then catch a cab to Sukhumvit Soi 6 ?

So my questions:

- is Makasan up & running for commercial operations ?

- how frequent is the fast train ?

- is there a cab rank full of cabs at Makasan ?

- estimate of total travel time Suvarnabhumi to Sukhumvit ?

is Makasan up & running for commercial operations ?

The Makasan station is open, trains stop there. You cannot check-in there. No commercial operations in place other than arrival/departure screens.

- how frequent is the fast train ?

every 15 minutes according to published reports.

- is there a cab rank full of cabs at Makasan ?

no cabs at all yesterday; some people were waiting for them but its not obvious cabs can get into the station grounds.

- estimate of total travel time Suvarnabhumi to Sukhumvit ?

15 minutes on the train, maybe 15 - 60 minutes to get to Soi 6 by taxi. This area is basically grid-locked most of the day.

Hopefully they'll make it so taxis can exit onto Khampaeng Phet 7, then it will be easier to get to some parts of town.

Its probably too soon to make any sort of reasonable estimates, maybe check back in closer to your arrival date?
