Does anyone agree with me that it would be sensible to have selective access to view posts and post on the Gay Forum similar to Bedlam? I.e. only those who have previously advised Admin of their aspirations would be able to view and post in there.

It will be very interesting to see the results of this poll, I got howled at for suggesting it before.

All I wanted to do was curb flaming.

aspirations

Don't you mean 'Preferences'

I think they are a nice bunch of guys. IJWT, Chris P, ProThaiexpat and Peaceblondie among them.

I don't think they would want to voluntarily ghetto-ize themselves - though perhaps you'd better ask them.

Non-gays who participate in the Forum don't get too infantile in their discussions. Perhaps if they did then they might feel differently.

aspirations

Don't you mean 'Preferences'

I thought about which word to use because I didn't want to infer that only gay inclined folk would be interested in being 'members'. Maybe I still got the word wrong but I couldn't think of a better way to put it. Maybe 'requirements' would be more appropriate.

There are other forums to discuss bar boys.

I think it should be wide open, just as posts about the visa priveledges farangs have who have Thai wives are wide open.

What about professed Gays and postings made by heterosexuals?

Should there be selective access based on sexual preference in order to read and comment on what the boys and girls from the hetro side of the bathroom a writing?

I you are Bi, would you be able access both?

Would transsexuals or hermaphrodites have to supply physical evidence?

The poll's third choice is unfortunate considering the topic.

I am in no way suggesting that 'members' need to prove their sexuality to be able to post in there. Just a simple "I would like to view and post in the gay forum" statement. Anyway, I proposed the poll to provide an indication of what the majority of sensible (Bedlam) TV members thought.

... and then there are the "closeted" members who perhaps would like to remain so?

Sorry, slip of the tongue. Standard phraseology in Yorkshire. Read into it what you wish!

The poll's third choice is unfortunate considering the topic.

Somehow I do not think it is was a coincidence...

majority of sensible (Bedlam) TV members thought

Now that would be a coincidence :o

You of little faith.......

Hmmmm ... as if getting buggered were a bad thing.

Perhaps an implication that bottoms don't have strong opinions.

..also - not wishing to discuss the OPs sexuality - it is of no concern to me (as is anyone's) - and I may be wrong in my assumption - for which I apologise for already..

but

I do find it a little disconcerting that the initiative for this proposal does not come from someone who is regular contributor to Gay Forum.

EDIT// Wouldn't it at least be polite, to post this pole in the Gay Forum?

I intially thought "Yes" - selective access would be good because after selecting "View New Posts" I accidentally tripped into that forum this morning.

:D

Funny coincidence, I was just talking with someone last night about this very subject... it's the second time it's happened to me.

Call me homophobic if you like, but I am just not interested in going anywhere near there.

Perhaps an option could be to have a filter on your "View New Posts" search engine that only searches the Forums that you have pre-selected.

:o

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

Looks like going selective is winning. I can see why people might want that, but what is the great appeal of segregation?

Also, who is voting here?

The people who actually read/post to the gay forum now, or everyone in bedlam, so in that sense, I think the results might not mean so much.

Precisely - well done.

C'mon Explorer, udon, RDN, HH,... you're reading this... post a reply.

cos it freakin hurts...well the first time anyway. :D

So, if I understand correctly if access is controlled then 1) flamers will have to first say they want entry before they go in and flame and 2) the homophobes won't "accidentally" end up there. Seems to me it won't stop serious problem flamers and homophobes should realize that decisions should not be made to accomodate their short comings. Of course some homophosbes don't think that being homophobic is a short coming and for them we should not accomodate them because if we do they will think they are justified in their aversion and start to think being homophobic is natural and good. I would vote for 'no control' in this case but I'm not going to officially vote because I think the regular posters of the forum in question should decide this matter since it will affect them the most.

And just to calm the flamers...the quotation marks on the work "accidentally" above is just a little joke and you needn't get your feathers all in a ruff...unless you want it to...

I voted yes. :D

The reason for this is so they can have more intimate discussions without offending other members.

Before you start flaming me i also agree the same for thai boy, bar girl stuff. :o

restrict it for what? If people don't like the gay forum then don't look, if someone wants to go there just to abuse the gay posters, then chrisp has the full support of the moderating & admin team & those people will be kicked out of the gay forum & TV as well if they are really bad.

We aint kids ya know
