Canadian And Vietnamese Marriage In Thailand...

Featured Replies

Hi All..

I'm getting married to my Vietnamese girlfriend (we've known each other for 2 years) in the spring.

Due to the fact that her only family are a couple of sisters, and the length of time required to get the marriage license in Vietnam, we are looking at having a civil wedding in Thailand.

I've read the basics about what is required of me (a single declaration from the CDN embassy, translate documents, certification by Thai Foreign Affairs & register the marriage)...

My question is what does my wife have to do? Can she simply get a single declaration from her embassy in Vietnam and have it translated into English?

Does anyone here have any experience or advice?

thanks.

Why not ask the Vietnamese Embassy in Bangkok?

If you start the paperwork now in Viet Nam you will have the marriage licence well before your intended marriage in spring.

Mine took 3 months, a mate got his in 1 day.

I'm in Canada (I guess I should have mentioned that). I can't really afford the time off of work to go to VN now and again in the spring...<div><br></div><div><br></div>

As a foreigner she will ned the same documents as you, in essence the declaration from her embassy that she is free to marry. The embassy sets the requirements to issue that letter, so it is best asked from the embassy itself.

Many embassies have a website, http://www.vietnamembassy-thailand.org/

I guess it all seems pretty straight forward. I'm just hoping that the Vietnamese Embassy doesn't screw us around.

thanks for the response.
