At some point in the future I will want to go to Bangkok area fishing using my own gear, can you buy something here in Phuket to keep the rods safe and free from damage i:e a solid rod case?

If all else fails go to your local plumbing supplies, get a piece of plastic tubing the diameter you need cut to length and add some end fittings.

That is what my dad does to get me rods from Holland it always works.

That is also what I do, even though my expensive Sage fly rods have their own aluminum cases. I get the heavy duty PVC pipe (8 cm x 3 mm thickness) and a cap for either end. One end I glue and the other end I just tape down for flights. I only use 4 piece rods for air travel and I can get 3 rods into the PVC pipe that will fit inside my duffle case.

Nowadays it's prohibited to bring fishing rods into cabin they must be check in. You can get it at a couple of shops in Phuket Town-but price much higher than Bangkok, everything is-one is Watersport and the other a Thai name( are we allow to post contact numbers?) If you need contact numbers PM.

Enclosed is one I bought in Singapore which could be locked and extended from 5ft to 9ft good for 5 rods. Just check in as over sized luggage.

Perhaps you should buy at 7Seas-tackle shop at Bungsamran- cheaper and price range from 700baht to 5000baht.
