I came across this package a while ago as I needed to convert video files to flash for my new website. Very full suite of tools (25) that I find very useful. Surprisingly it is free.

Here is a sample flash that I generated in just a few minutes from a video taken today with my HTC Desire phone which is 3gp video format. I'm helping a high school student with a robot project, in this case a remote control floor polisher. I designed the control electronics and they did the mechanics and construction. Pretty good for a high school project.

The video to flash converts the file to flash plus all the support files and even generates the code to just copy/paste into your website.

This is also one of these companies that does not write anything about the licenses.

This software is not distributed under any free license although they say they distribute free software...

It is as proprietary as every other non-free software. You don't know anything about that these programs are doing to your computer.

It really is a shame that they fool people into believing that this is free software.

At least they should learn the basics about licenses before they advertise their products.

People are asking about licenses in their forum and they allow you to do some and they forbid you to do some... But they give you no license text or agreement.

I wouldn't install these software anywhere and I would brush my teeth after pronouncing their name...

I have spoken!

Unless you know something that dozens of sites that have this in their download section don't then best not to scaremonger.

Seems to be one of your mantras regarding the term "free". Sites like CNet, ZDNet, Tucows, and many others have it in their download section. I am also a professional programmer and member of the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP) and have a commercial site selling scientific software and getting listed on sites like above is not simple as they have rigorous requirements which include determining effects on systems. And yes, mine is listed.

This is why it is free if you had actually looked at their site: "Our company is doing advertising on the website and getting rewards from installing Optional Toolbar. Moreover, we are accepting donation from our followers. With this money we can afford ourselves to offer free software as well as maintain a small team of employees developing software and providing technical support." Perhaps you would prefer they use the term "donateware"?

Being a computer and engineering professional for 35+ years I don't make recommendations lightly without having evaluated them thoroughly first. This app I have been running for several weeks now and it works very well indeed. Yes, you have to wait 10 seconds after exiting for them to advertise their toolbar, but hardly a handicap for a very complete set of tools.

This topic is about this specific application and my experience with it.

Firstly, reading your response, it is obvious that we have a communication problem originating from the fact that you don't know what "free software" stands for. "Free software" is a term globally accepted in the software industry. It has an exact definition and is respected among the majority of professionals in the software business including those who are creating non-free software.

Secondly, it is also obvious that there are different levels of what one mean by "thorough evaluation".

Thirdly, it would be very interesting to see if what you mean by "rigorous requirements which include determining effects on systems" is anywhere near what I would expect.

Very sound advice, a little late though, it would seem (see below)

... some people only care about the garbage I and others write and totally miss the stuff that matters... :D

Some kind of defect...

Uh huh, yep. I'm defective, I think it's genetic. I seem to dislike displays of an over-inflated sense of self-importance. I wish it could be cured, but I think it's something I'm going to have to learn to live with. Ah well, c'est la vie. Anyway, there are more debilitating social 'defects' that others have to deal with on a day to day basis, which I find humbling, so thanks for that :wai:

Explain to me (slowly) where you found "displays of an over-inflated sense of self-importance"

I think you should read what I wrote (and understand who I quoted and why) before you pull any silly jokes...

I think you should also understand that it is very easy to come across as condescending, arrogant and unhelpful when it's probably very likely that you are very knowledgeable and have a lot to offer and could be very helpful to those of us who know less than you in this particular field.

Or, you could just carry on as you are.

Slow enough for you?
