There a mall on west side of Sukumvitt near the Chaiyapuk road intersection that advertises free Wifi. I forget the name, something Village.

You can use TRUE Wifi for as little as 29 baht for a day. Is that too much for you?

Restricted to 256kb/s and you have to re-login every hour or so, but you are not stuck in a contract and it's costs less than the cup of coffee you would need to buy to sit in Starbucks or Macdonalds.

If you're near Jomtien Beach Road, between Soi 8 & Soi 9, there's a coffee restaurant called Solada Coffee (or something like that). Look for their large roadside sign with a coffee cup... they offer free wifi. Food's pretty good, too.

I used to pick up a signal at the food court on the bottom level last year but not this year. The signal was weak but good enough for checking email.
