Have I just woken up from a 3 year long bad dream or what. Every where that I look about documents for non B WP not one of them mentions the waiver letter from TCT. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Not sure if they are in there. It is (at least at some immigration offices) however required to get an extension of stay.

I was actually asked for it by the Education Department when I applied for permission from them to teach in the province last time. They showed me a letter that had been sent, from the teachers council,to all MOE departments in the country.

I go to Nakorn Ratchasima to get an extention and they do want it.

I am changing jobs and would like to show a list of required docs to the school. I am the first foreign teacher they have employed so they are not sure what to do.

Indeed difficult for some schools if they have never done it before. Normally there will be someone at regional the education office that will know what to do and they might be able to give examples for the school from other schools in the area.

These are the document requirements as stated on the MFA website for applying for a visa. These documents are more or less also needed for an extension of the permission of stay added with the tax clearance receipt if applicable.

2.4 Non-Immigrant Visa Category "B" (Teaching) Foreigners who intend to take up employment as school teachers at the levels below university level in Thailand must submit the following required documents:

- Passport or travel document with validity of not less than 6 months

- Completed visa application form

- Recent passport-sized photograph (4 x 6 cm) of the applicant taken within the past 6 months.

- Letter of acceptance from employing institute or school in Thailand.

- Letter of approval from government agencies such as the Office of the Private Education Commission, the Office of the Basic Education Commission.

- Evidence of educational qualification such as diplomas or teaching certificates.

- School license or business registration, list of shareholders and school profile.

- Applicant's resume.

- Police certificate verifying that applicant has no criminal record or equivalents or letter issued by authorised agencies in applicant's country. (The requirement of the submission of such police certificate is optional. The applicant must submit it if consular officer requests he/she to do so. This requirement is effective as from May 2007)

About The Teachers' Council of Thailand (TCT) teacher license, teacher license exemption certificate or teacher license exemption letter (waiver):

- that a Service Area of the MOE is asking for it is completely new to me. Thanks for this info.

- some Immigration Offices want to see a TCT license or exemption before extending the permission of stay.

- some Labour Offices want to see a TCT license or exemption before renewing the work permit.

Nationwide, it's definitely not consistent. For example in my region, The Service Area of the MOE doesn't want it, the Labour Office doesn't want it but the Immigration Office wants it.

I know of other regions where both Labour and Immigration want it and I know of regions where none of them want it.

I am on my second 2 year waiver. I even had to show proof to the labor office (head) that i was in the process of meeting the requirement for the TL, even though i already had the waiver in my possession, before they would issue me a new WP (my old one expired when i was in the States on vacation). Some provinces are more strict than others.
