Crime Government Official Caught Using State Vehicle to Deliver Meth
Picture courtesy of Komchadluek. A 29-year-old civil servant has been arrested in Chonburi province after being caught using a government-issued vehicle to deliver methamphetamine, allegedly to finance his online gambling addiction. The suspect, whose name has been withheld, serves as a disaster prevention and mitigation officer at a local municipal office. The arrest was led by Police Colonel Sarawut Nuchanart, Superintendent of Banglamung Police Station, alongside Deputy Superintendent Police Lieutenant Colonel Kornpong Sookvisith and a joint investigative task force, following a two-month surveillance operation. Officers seized 29 methamphetamine pills, 0.4 grams of crystal meth and drug paraphernalia from the suspect. The operation stemmed from a prior arrest on 30 May, when traffic police stopped a motorcyclist named “Sith” at a routine checkpoint on Krathing Lai railway road inbound to Pattaya. Sith was found in possession of 99 meth pills hidden under the motorcycle seat. Under interrogation, he confessed to purchasing the drugs from the suspect. Investigators began monitoring the civil servant closely and received a tip-off that a drug delivery was imminent. Surveillance officers observed the suspect leaving his municipal office in a state vehicle and driving to his residence in Soi Nawang 11. He was then seen parking roadside and throwing an object into nearby grass before driving away. Officers retrieved a zip-lock bag containing nine meth pills from the grass, then moved in to arrest the suspect at his municipal workplace. A subsequent search of his residence revealed an additional 20 pills, crystal meth and drug-taking equipment. Under questioning, the suspect admitted he had been a government official for about three years. He confessed to purchasing drugs from a dealer in the Ban Rong Hip community, both for personal use and to sell to acquaintances and fellow municipal staff. He said the proceeds were used for daily expenses and to fund online gambling. Police have charged the suspect with possession of illegal drugs with intent to distribute and misuse of a government vehicle. He is currently in custody pending further legal action. File photo courtesy of โดย Tuomo Salonen / SIMFinnish Aviation Museum - commons file, CC BY-SA 4.0 Thailand's Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has marked a historic moment by deploying JAS 39C/D Gripen fighter jets in actual combat for the first time. On July 26, these Swedish-built warplanes saw action against Cambodian artillery targeting Thai positions amid a tense border dispute. In a coordinated mission, the Gripens flew alongside Thailand’s older F-16 Fighting Falcons. The operation was a success, with all aircraft successfully returning to base, underscoring the capability of the Gripens in active conflict. The Gripen, developed by Sweden’s Saab AB, is designed under the “Smart Fighter” concept. It excels in network-centric warfare, integrating with radar systems, ground stations, and other aircraft for real-time operations. This was the first time Thai Gripens transitioned from their usual roles in training, air shows, and patrols to an active combat scenario, reported the Bangkok Post. Globally, the Gripen is also used by the Czech Republic, Brazil, Hungary, and South Africa, but this was its debut in actual combat. Thailand selected the Gripen for its state-of-the-art technology, multi-role capabilities, and ability to operate from short runways, offering strategic flexibility in warfare. This first combat outing demonstrates the Gripen's value to Thailand's defence, highlighting its agility and technological advancement. The world will be watching closely to see how other nations currently using or considering the Gripen respond to its proven combat performance. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Bangkok Post 2025-07-31 -
