We spend a day Buffalo Racing in North Pattaya.

Although our resources were stretched at the weekend because of the many activities taking place in town, we still managed time to visit an annual event which takes place here in Pattaya and is always a fun day out. This is the Chonburi Provincial Buffalo Racing Championships 2005 and features some of the fittest buffalos from around the province. Farmers prepare for months in advance to ensure that their buffalo is the best. There is a serious side to the event which highlights this working animal which, for many years, sustained the farming industry here in Thailand. However now with the advent of modern technology Buffaloes are being used less frequently and their work can now be done by quicker and more efficient machines. Organizers hope that this event will come to the attention of the local government and that the importance of the buffalo here in Chonburi Province and in the rest of Thailand will never be forgotten.
