A game only second to rugby.cricket mate...and they wear helmuts these days.

The Ashes refers to Aussie/England Test matches and is all about some burnt piece of timber that the Aussies want back and the day cricket died in the UK. :o

Been going on since 29th August 1882...just a few hundred years after that Chinese bloke discovered America. :D

I read something recently in National Geographic on the very same subject. I really don't think it's a crackpot notion. The Admiral the Chinese had at that time was a very interesting character. He was neutered as a teenager but still rose to position of authority in the Chinese Navy and led expiditions around to east Africa and possibly to America.

Sorry - Off Topic...again :D

Crackpot of <deleted> of the day keeps this on topic?

Actually no Prof., Gavin Menzies, a former submariner followed some leads and 'evidence' that in 1421 the Chiense went via Africa East- and West coast and over to N/S America and from there drifted back to China, where the new emperor had all evidence destroyed as the country had no more funds.

According to Menzies, whenever a boat was lost, the survivors where left on land, to be picked up by the next expedition, that never came. They in turn mixed with the locals. Doing still DNA.

Interesting read and doubted by many experts as Menzies as just a layman and no Prof.

So IMHO no <deleted> of the day (to stay on topic) but a very interesting read with hundreds of foot notes. Homework doen.

Just trying out the new award for <deleted> of the day. Not sure if it will work. If not then this post is pointless :o

Some could argue - and far be it from me to wander in these dangerous highways - but there could be a small whisper gradually icreasing to a raucus shout, that anyone who spends their time constructing an animated gif of the phrase "<deleted> of the Day" for some self appointed award on Thaivisa Forum, is a suitable candidate for the award of "<deleted> of the Millenium".

I'll second that Thomas old mate. I only wish sometimes they'd come up with an award that I had a chance of winning :o

Your (our) award is this: to be our age, with our memories and our experience - with our trials and tribulations - the good times and the bad times, yet to wake up in LOS with our only worry being "Did I leave my sandals at the back door or the front door?" - and there is somebody there to help us look.

That's worth ten Oscars, the FA Cup, the Grand Slam - I would even venture to say it blows the Ashes into dust.

Besides as Groucho once said "I don't want to be a member of a club that wants me to be a member" well I am not interested in an award given by someone else – what do they know?

A little harsh there, Tom.

Maybe he's got a lot of time on his hands like those who mess around with Photoshop for the fun of it.

Sometimes you gotta wonder what folks did to amuse themselves before computers came around.
