Finally went to Tawandang this weekend after wanting to go for awhile.

Very good weis beer; citrusy and hoppy with good flavor and aroma.

The dunkel was also pretty good; smooth with no bitter aftertaste. I also had a sip of the regular lager which tasted crisp and decent. Drank a lot of beer with no headache; next day needed to recoup but w/out the nasty hangover I get from commercial Thai beers (a good indicator of quality beer)

The food was very good for Thailand; good knuckle and other fare; nua daed deow, veggies etc.

The show was a bit gaudy but entertaining nevertheless; with no cover nothing to complain about.

All in all I felt it was a great value for the money and I will definitely be going back.

In that case, you might want to look into getting one of their discount cards.  I have a 15% discount card and every time I use it (about once a month) I get the cost of the card back.

I used to frequent this place some years ago and the entertainment then was never gaudy...just good local bands. Loved the glass beer towers attached to the tables.

Agreed, good food and beer and the discount card is well worth it. We go there when Carabao are playing and the cover charge is only usually 50 baht.

When I went there were no bands; a few singers and some pretty over the top vaudeville stuff complete with a ladyboy doing a number from Chicago.

Probably should make the distinction that the O.P. is presumably referring to GERMAN TAWANDAENG on Rama-3 and not ISAN TAWANDAENG, the popular Morlam music club on Soi Phatanakhan.

I think there used to be a third Tawandaeng somewhere in Bangkok but I haven't heard anything about it for a long time. Does anybody know if's still in operation?

Also on Ram Intra, and now they have two in Singapore.

Depends a lot on what day of the week and at what time you go.

Not a lot before 8pm, and the main shows are on Friday and Saturday.

Sunday and Monday has much less. But always very entertaining, and usually quite well done. Definately not gaudy.

Not knockin it caus as I said I had an excellent time and will definitely go back; but if you don't consider a leather clad ladyboy with chains and whips singing a showtune with six other girls dressed similarly behind bars in a jailhouse scenario then, just what is your definition of gaudy>?
