Interesting. How much was the Remus pipe? And how loud is it compared to the old slip on you had on?

It was 26,500. It is not as loud as my old slip on, but it is still pretty loud. It is a good loud though, not an annoying loud. It has this really sweet hum to it. I'll post a video in a little bit.

Says the guy who can't stopping about the Kawasaki Ninja 250R?
Thanks. 26,500thb... that's the thing, I don't think I'd be comfortable spending virtually 25% of the what the bike cost on a pipe. Especially with used Er-6n's as low as 145k nowadays.

Same here, the Remus one looks very nice but I prefer the sound of my 5,900 baht exhaust

so wouldn't pay another 20,000baht just for aesthetics!

That dyno graph is interesting. they are claiming over 3hp increase for a slip on pipe!!!!!

are they? i don´t think so.i wish - but they realy don´t.....:(

the power output numbers, they show in the upper left corner of the graph claim a power gain of 0.6 hp and a plus of 0.3 nm torque..: TOO LITTLE - SOO LATE - SOO MUCH MONEY :annoyed:

!! NO 3 HP TO BE FOUND HERE!!!

sounds much better than the stock pipe though

i´ll wait a bit more. i don´t understand why it is soo hard to find some extra power in the exhaust system. even the removal of the catalytic system should bring more then 0.6 hp????? no exhaust proves to bring extra hp´s jet...

i realy don´t get it. can someone please explain?

cheers

Anybody see any CBR-250's for rent in Chiang Mai? The Versys showed up here pretty fast but so far I haven't seen the Honda for rent anywhere up here.

Seen a couple around the moat area for rent, maroon red.

Saw a black one up close outside the local clinic where I took my son to get his shots. Didn't look that exciting since the first time I saw the 250 delivered at Niyom Panich (has it lost it's appeal on me or was it because it didn't look like the owner of that particular bike was too lazy to shine his bike ... it just looked aged)... Definitely those silver bits should have been black. Not a fan of decals but I think it would make it look better. I think the stock exhaust looks worse than the one on the 150 (then again different strokes for different folks).

Read the 250 bikes comparison in last month's issue of Popular Mechanics, here's the online version.

Your exhaust is very nice, but are you seriously comparing a locally made exhaust to an Austrian made Remus? I think the price difference comes down to a bit more than aesthetics. Engineering, research and development, top grade materials, and quality workmanship come to mind. They also provide a dynograph to back up their performance claims.

The 3 HP is at the lower end. Look at the graph from 0-60 kph. You are correct though, that at the peak point of the graph, the stock and mod numbers are pretty close.

As they are both exhausts I think they can be compared but I imagine the Remus is of higher quality but definitely not worth another 20K! I just did a quick google search and the Okami is actually their budget exhaust, see below.

No one likes a credit crunch, but it does make companies think about value, about making their products differently and, hopefully, more cheaply.

298_1765654543.jpg Take Remus. It took its high-spec Hexacone end-can and looked at ways of reducing the costs to make it more affordable. The carbon end cap and inlet cap were removed and changed to a composite end cap and brushed stainless inlet cap. The end result is the ‘OKAMI’, which is Japanese for ‘wolf’. It’s something that looks as expensive as the Hexacone but is actually £100 cheaper.

And of that 26,000baht how much is due to import tax? It is a fantastic looking exhaust for sure but the sound is so-so. I met a Thai guy recently with an exhaust on his Honda CB400 that was made by the guy who made mine and it's almost 3yrs old and still looks/sounds great.

I've bought a Leo Vince from America before and paid 11,000 baht inc shipping & taxes, the same one if bought in BKK was 21k! Like Tony said, if you want a pricey one from one of the big boys it makes much more sense to do it yourself.

The import tax was certainly a big part of the price, but I don't mind paying for quality, even if it includes a heavy tax. Also, Remus exhausts never have to be repacked, while most other after market exhausts do. They also have a lifetime warranty on the packing. Try getting a guarantee like that on a locally made exhaust. Repacking an exhaust is not something I would want to do every 4,000 km. If you don't repack, you are risking your exhaust catching fire. I believe a forum member mentioned having a locally made exhaust catch fire awhile back. At the end of day though, you are happy with your exhaust, and I am happy with mine. That is all that matters. Best of luck.

NOT SURE but i'm pretty sure that there is another Dyno showing a stock CBr250 at around the 23hp mark hence the 3hp gain... Also Honda are only claiming around the 23hp mark...

It's interesting that Remus DO NOT show a CBR250 can on their website !!!!!!!

The Okami can be used on the Ninja 250, as well as other bikes. I actually had to change my pipe, in order to make the provided Ninja adaptor fit on my bike. The people at Panda told me that Remus had just greenlighted the Okami for use on the CBR 250. They told me I would have to wait a month the Okami with a CBR 250 adaptor. However, it was so sweet looking that I couldn't wait to get it on my bike. I guess when the CBR 250 is in more makets around the world, Remus will start to promote it on their website. For me, it was a totally emotional spur of the moment impulse purchase, devoid of any frugality or prudence. I saw it and had to have it. In the end though, I am very happy with it.

Brian. with that in mind it would be interesting to see where those Dyno figures came from. Because to me they look ALOT like the NINJA 250 figures NOT the Cbr250 ones.

I have just found the same pipe on ebay for 14,000b (274.55 uk) thats at a dealer if you factor in the dealer discount AND then take off 17.5% Vat then Panda are f#+king expensive.

The UK ebay seller (calsport) just quoted 270.75 uk for the CBR250 can 2-3 weeks delivery. (amazingly fast response. 15 minutes)

Arrow don't need repacking either and their Dark Line exhaust will be around $250 + $60 shipping + around 1500 baht in customs if you do it right so a total of about 12000 baht maximum. But like you said, it was an impulse buy and you wanted it so that's all that matters and it does look great. The poster who commented about the fire was little old me! It only happened because the baffle supplied was far too small which made the exhaust heat up and burn the carbon, no fire though.

You might be on to something with the dyno, ThaiCBR. I can't seem to find it on their website. A late April Fool's joke perhaps? Wow 14,000, that's a big difference.

Stu, do you know how the customs fees work when importing exhausts and related products? Just curious, I've never done it before? Drinks are on me if you find the bar!

It's usually around 30% if you avoid the likes of DHL so to make sure you don't get stung find a dealer willing to declare a lower value. You'll also have to pay 7% vat and the shipping cost is also subject to duty.
