Anyone notice how massive a difference cleaning the chain (even just giving it a good wiping with WD-40 & cloth) and a good lubing (even with only the lithium grease from homepro) makes, even after a few hundred km?

Great improvement in smoothness, feel and sound/noise (lack of).

Had the carbon exhaust from praram2bikes put on today, looks and sounds sweet! Had a quick 150km jaunt in the mountains afterwards and the 350baht seat customisation means it's now even more comfortable and with an extra 3cm it gives me a tad more legroom too.

The baffle finally arrived on Friday so I put it in yesterday to see how much it reduced the noise (bloody noisy without it), rode for all of about 5mins and it fried the exhaust!

I tried it out on a long, straight road with no traffic which is ideal for testing top speed, emergency braking etc and it was when I stopped after an emergency brake that I noticed a strong, burning smell.

I got off the bike and checked the exhaust and there was sh1t loads of smoke coming out of it and the carbon had burnt and gone brown, <deleted>, I thought carbon was supposed to be strong?!

I'd done over 1000kms without the baffle in with no problems (apart from it being noisy as hell) so I guess the smaller hole meant the exhaust got far too hot far too quick, bit of a design flaw!

My wife spoke to the guy who made it yesterday who said I should send it to him and he'll investigate why it happened and then make me a new one, I said I'd rather wait until a decent one was available instead of continuing with a mickey mouse one and he offered me a 50% refund!!!

I know as TIT there probably aren't many consumer protection laws but does anyone know if there is one that would force him to refund 100%? How about engine damage, could the engine have been damaged by yesterday's events?

Thanks

Ooops! Yeah, you have to be careful with CF cans as you can easily burn through them. Seen it happen even with high end CF cans. Dunno anything about the can you bought but would guess it's just a cheap generic can not really designed specifically for your bike? As for engine damage, you're probably ok, but if the bike is running lean as a result of this can you can, over time, burn the valves and piston. Good luck!

The only way to get 100% back is to hire a few guys to go for a visit... That is not something you would want to do for only a few thousand... Give it back to him and let him sort it out- you get a new one and if it burns as well, then get your money back... He has to pay for material... And buying a locally made cf can is a gamble, you lost on this one- sorry...

Hope that the next can will be better...

Nope, must be my 9th. The difference is larger on the CBR than all the others I've had.

Pity when people need to try and look down on someone, says quite a lot about them. :D

That is what i thought too.. But tony is famous for it putting down everyone. Maybe to make up for his own small ego or stature. I learned from your remark as its my first bigger bike too. Thanks for posting it you give good information instead of putting people down.

Im sure Tony knows a lots but he has a bad character. I remember him putting down Dave Boo too. I had friends like that desperately trying to compensate for something by putting others down. Suffice to say they are not friends anymore.

Not defending tony here- but it might just be his humor... I saw it as a funny remark, but i can see that people took it the wrong way... That said, i think that tony would be quick to help and inform if needed...

Now my ear is ok... Going to bangkok on my bike in an hour... Guess it will take about ten hours or so... Not going to fast and dont know the way to go in bangkok...

Special people to see in bangkok- or it would have been phuket... For bike porn!

Just seen Tony pull this kind of stunt many times, if its his humor its bad humor. Putting others down to look good. If it was a one off remark then sure.

Wow.. all the way to BKK on your bike.. that is a long ride indeed. Any reasons for going there ?

Quite mad! Not the 10 hours but the main roads are not fun at night if you don't know the route...

Enjoy!

Your friendly nudge to remind the less attentive to keep their chain clean and lubed is well made

Sure Tony.. just keep believing that. Its not the first time and you know that well. Show me where you put yourself down and then ill see it as taking the piss. I am quite thick skinned. Just don't like people who put others down to compensate for their own short comings.

He made a valid remark also reminding me about this and others.

I'm perfectly happy to admit when I fack up, like when I binned the Gixxer last week- http://www.thaivisa....ost__p__4338861

Or when I dumped my 650R in Nan way back when (sorry, can't be arsed to dig up the link).

OR...

oh wait, that's not me... :D

You're absolutely right that I will continue to tease and joke on this forum. Some folks take themselves a bit too seriously methinks.

And sorry, but if you need to be reminded to clean and oil your chain, then you too must be new to motorcycles... :passifier:

Happy Trails!

Tony

Chiag Mai to Mai Sai

Mai Sai to Phrae

Phrae to Phitsanulok

Phitsanulok to Udon Thani

Udon Thani to Kalasin

Kasalin to Ubon Ratchathani

Ubon to Nakon Ratchasima

Nakon R to Lop Buri.

Lop Buri to Tak.

Tak to Chiang Mai.

Take about 2 weeks and about 3,000 kilometers. And that's on a 150! Anyone who wants to tag along for all or part, send me a PM.

Oh, and feel free to tell me you think I'm Nucking Futs! hahaha

About a month ago I went from Chom Phae, which is 70k south of Khon Kaen, to Chiang Mai in a little over 8 hours. Had to stop every 3 hours or so to ease the pinched nerve in my right foot, but other than that, it was a blast.

I did 800km today on my 250... Tomorrow i will finish the trip up with a short 100k run... Then tuesday it is back home with a short 900km run... Today all in just over 7 hours... My guess is the trip home will be longer since i will buy a case of oranges in chumpom, tie that to the bike and take it 350km south... You are not crazy, enjoy your short trip and remember to oil your chain and check your engine oil...

Ps... After today i lay on my stomach in my room. I wish i was gay now because then my butt would handle this pain better... Well... Tomorrow the healing hands will be there:-) (from a female!) :-)

Absolute nonsense- first off, I never offered to give the seat away for free.

ER6nShoot4-37.jpg

The MODIFICATION of the seat cost 800 Baht.

The seat itself costs a bit over 1600 Baht new from Kawasaki.

Shipping it to you via EMS Courier would cost a few hundred Baht.

I think offering it to you for 1000 Baht was a very good deal, but no worries I ended up selling it for a lot more to a 650R rider in the UK. :)

Happy Trails!

Nonsense, you sure about that Mr Pisstake? Here's what you said ' If it would fit on the Versys (which unfortunately it doesn't) I'd give it to you as I'll never use it'.

So you offer to 'give' it to someone but when I then emailed you about your very generous offer you asked for 1000baht! No worries though mate, like you said you sold it already and I am now a happy CBR 250R owner anyway so all good. :)

2 days of fun.

My word what a bike.

Just back from two days of highway racing along the 305 and 33, with a nice detour through Khao Yai on the way back, and nothing could catch the CBR, absolutely nothing. And it wasn’t for lack of triers either. Many attempted, all failed.

sdgdfaf.jpg

Went down yesterday and the roads were dead, it was virtually 3 empty lanes of highway the entire way. Conditions were great so it was throttle wide open and goodbye to all Hilux’, Fortuners and minivans at 150kph cruising speed. I’m not a speedfreak and don’t go for gung-ho racing and lying on the tank. I did duck down once and it sped upto 155kph rather easily, but a comfortable 150kph is nice enough. And the bike feels completely stable and sturdy at such speeds, and wind wasn’t exactly weak. Even the engine at only 9000rpm seems to lap up 150kph endlessly and without stress or strain.

One massive Mitsubishi 4WD did make up ground on one of the very long straights and was just drawing level when a bend came up and he had to let off. In 800km over the two days on basically free highways not one vehicle passed the little CBR. And at least one vehicle of every kind had a go. After 4 yrs of being bossed and bullied around the road I think it’s a fair call to get it out of the system and spend a few days humiliating and destroying the ‘big boys’ in their ‘big toys’. A few of them will be tossing and turning tonight for sure, they don’t seem to like a youngish farang on a little bike leaving them for absolute dead.

Anyway, the bike just laps it up endlessly, my original plan of keeping it for 2 yrs and upgrading to the Ninja650R is out the window I’d say. The little CBR is more than capable of everything needed, worries of it holding it’s own on the highway have been utterly destroyed with it downright humiliating anything and everything on there.

And that’s only stock form. It will end up with whole new exhaust system and airfilter, with the programmable FI set to keep the stock combustion ratio, what a little animal it will be then. Ninja money then spent on top class suspension, and it will be perfect.

8,500km in, and what a machine it is.
