I like Tops in Pattaya, where there are two stores. One in Tukcom and the other on Second Road and Pattaya Klang. I have the savings card which is good value for no cost. :D

I like tops too,but, was dissappointed when I went to both shops in Pattaya that I could not find any Waitrose Tea Bags, also failed at Central Food Halls. I think all ex pats would like their tea bags and would sell well, have yet to find a decent tea bag so I hope Mr TOPS is watching and can do something for me/us?

I like Tops but, in their Thonglor branch , they have recently introduced a minimum spend to use the car park for free.

After you have made your purchase you need to queue up at Customer Services desk, wait for them to finish their personal telephone conversations, show them your receipt and they stamp your car park ticket.

I can understand the need for controlling a car park, it keeps more people employed, but sometimes I don't purchase because an item is out of stock, sometimes I don't make the minimum spend and sometimes I like to browse.

We have one in Samui - pretty poor selection of stuff though, in my opinion, and expensive even by Samui standards.

• the best food store in Asia;

• the best international supermarket in Thailand;

Who says so?

I very much doubt your claims.

In Phuket ,where Tops has been obliterated by Central, the prices are ludicrous and getting worse.

You could rightly claim to be

'THE MOST EXPENSIVE FOOD STORE IN ASIA"

But Villa has in general better meat/fish/bread

All this is arguable and many have their favourites, I suppose it also depends on convenience of transport/parking and so on.

Central Phuket is becoming a nightmare to park in, at weekends especially,

whereas Villa always has easy access.

Tops Market is part of Central, they are part of the Central Group and the 'best food store in Asia' refers to Central Food Hall like the one in Phuket. They're two supermarkets in the same company, some Centrals have Tops and others have Food Hall. I don't know why in Phuket one would be way more expensive than the other, in Bangkok the regular Tops Markets are not at all expensive and have a pretty good selection of food.

"recently" recognised, I think was in 2006. Central do quite a good job product-wise, even though their competition is very limited. The layout of "The Best Food Store in Asia" is very irritating, however, with a major walk-through being the culprit. The store layout, like most of their other retail outlets is blocked by subsequently installed counters, exacerbating the traffic flow. You really wonder whether anyone from the management has ever shopped in their stores. Well, that's a silly question.

We have 3 Tops in Chiang Mai and four Rimping. The Tops are located in two shopping malls and one on the north side of CM old city. Tops is used predominantly by those inside the superhighway. The four Rimping, one but the river and one by Airport plaza, these two get their customers predominantly from within the city but also get customers from without. The other two stores service the communities outside city. As Chiang Mai has grown there now is as many people outside as in the city and very few from outside got to Tops as they are in the city. From what I see Rimping out scores Top all the way.
