Featured Replies

Hi friends i want your comments on something.....I want to know if a foreigner marries a thai lady, how long he will get the marriage visa for and Can he get the Work Permit after marriage ???

He gets none of those things...marriage does not help at all..... stay single , change your girl every month... be happy..!!!

You would be better posting this in the VISA section.

You do not automatically get anything. You can apply for an extension based on marriage. There are certain criteria you nust meet regarding income or capital or a combination of both.Do a search in the visa section and you'll have all the info. Alternatively as said before, post the question in that forum.

Getting married in Thailand guarantees you nothing from the Thai government expecially if you dont qualify or meet certain criteria ie.minimum req on regular monthly income and bank balances.. Exchange rate fluctuations can affect your status. By the way, why are you considering marrying a Thai.? Stay single and enjoy life. (******) You've been warned!

If you marry a Thai you can apply for extensions of stay based on your marriage, for this you must show an income of 40,000 baht a month or 400,000 baht in the bank for at least 2 months. The income can be from abroad.

When on an extension of stay you can get a work permit, but a work permit is given for the job with the employer mentioned in the work permit. First you find a job, than you get a work permit for that job.

you seem to have had some sound advice already unless you really have the burning desire to marry remain in the modern way as partners

it appears you have no benifits by doing so.

please beware of the guy who advertises on the TV claims to offer the world in Visa services two of my friends have paid up & come away with nothing

& it is not what it say on the box guaranteed money back if no visa

you have been warned .

Marriage allows issue of a non immigrant O visa in single entry valid for one 90 day stay or multi entry valid for one year of up to 90 day stays on each entry or a 60 day extension of stay to visit wife. And if you can meet the financial conditions one year extensions of stay from Immigration inside Thailand.

just wanted to know, to have the marriage legalised through the appropiate people is it possible to have one of their reps to come out and do it rather than having to get married in an office. Or is easier to have a ceremony then just do the ampur thing for docs etc rather than a ceremony. I heard they cant come out during office hours.

Slightly off topic but I went to a wedding in Gibralter recently and the registrar left before the vowels were made. Said it was illegal for her to hear them. Wonder if same in Thailand.

I hope she came back before the consonants were undone?
