Reds, ‘men in black’ involved in eight cases of deaths, four unknown: DSI

There are eight cases of deaths during the anti-government protests from March to May involving the red shirts and the “men in black”, while the cause of deaths in four other cases is unknown but they could have resulted from a crackdown by security forces, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) said yesterday.

The deaths caused by red shirts include the killing of five soldiers at Khok Wua Intersection on April 10, an M79 attack on Silom Skytrain station, which killed one woman, two drive-by shootings in which two policemen were killed, an ambush on a military vehicle that saw one soldier killed, and an M79 attack near Lumpini Park in which one soldier died.

Included in the eight cases is an arson attack on CentralWorld, in which one person was killed, and a post-protest bomb attack in front of Big C Rajdamri that killed a man, said DSI Director-General Tharit Phengdit.

The deaths in four cases possibly involving security forces are: three deaths in Wat Pathum Wanaram, out of a total of six in the temple compound; the death of Private Narongrit Sala, who was shot dead on Vibhavadi Rangsit highway; the death of Japanese photographer Hiroyuki Muramoto; and the death of a Suan Dusit zoo guard.

The DSI will cease further investigation into those four cases for a 30-day period, pending mandatory autopsy results from local police.

There are no details of the three remaining deaths in the temple and a DSI investigation is underway. The three deaths in the temple implicating security forces come from a trajectory study indicating that the bullets that killed them were fired from “declined angles” which is consistent with Army snipers and soldiers who were positioned on the elevated BTS track overlooking the temple.

The DSI is dealing with 254 cases involving 89 deaths. The killings on April 10 included that of Colonel Romklao Thuwatham.

Payao Akkahad, whose daughter Kamolkade a paramedic was killed in Wat Prathum Wanaram on May 19, said there were still no clear answers or progress in the DSI investigation into her daughter’s death.

She called on the DSI to release the probe results on a case-by-case basis of the deaths that occurred on April 10 and during the May violence. However, Payao said she would hold a news conference over the DSI’s autopsy report on her daughter’s death.

Meanwhile, Banjerd Fungklinchan, whose 29-year-old son Therdsakwas was killed at Khok Wua Intersection, said he did not believe the DSI’s autopsy reports.

“I want the DSI to release the results of the investigation into my son’s death, as he was shot in his chest with six bullets. The DSI knows who killed him,” he said.

Nonsense.

If it was, they would not write this:

Unlike during the War on Drugs and Tiak-ban mass-death under Thaksin's rule, responsibility for deaths from the 'state' forces side is acknowledged and investigated.

Of course the MiB and red shirts killed a bunch of people in the April-May tragedy. Only a propagandist, cultist follower, someone deluded or someone wanting the reds to be what they arent wouldnt accept that.

It is easy for the state to deal with these cases.

However, there are also people killed by the military. Dealing with that will likley be something the state cannot rise to.

Shows the honesty of the Government for admitting that they MAY be resposible for the other 4 deaths though having personally witnessed the incidents as i returned from Khao san Rd that day I have mu own views on who murdered the Japanese camera man - as you rightly say TAWP - a LOT more honest than the decietful cover up from Shinawatra during the drugs massacre of 2500 he instigated in 2004 - incidently did you know that Police files showed after he left for China that 1400 of the murders were officially listed on those files as having NOTHING to do with drugs these files were signed and dated by police and corroners AT THE TIME OF DEATH!! NINE of the Shinawatra muders were on oposing politicians whom the Thai lac Thai party got the police to list as drug murders - like Stalin and Hitler Thaksin Shinawatra needed his purge!! - pity now these black guards murder to bring him back - how red shirts like to ignore FACTS that dont fit their arguments and how easily the UFDD ignores the TRUTH TODAY!!

I think making it official that MiB/reds did some killing is necessary. There is so much propaganda about this...Jatuporn saying nobody was armed...the truth needs to be published with a solid amount of evidence to back it. As far as the other killings, I hope the gov does own up to it. This might be easier AFTER they have proven they were being attacked. At least I hope so!

Craig - i walked round the red shirt camp myself and SAW armed black shirt guards - there are HUGE numbers of photos of them with guns and well documented evidence that under "Seh Daengs leadership" they carried out NUMEROUS attacks with M79 grenades - these are facts - trouble is they murdered some of the people with these facts like the Japanese cameraman. Remeber the army caught 23 of them at rama 9 bridge and found them to be Thai police, renegade thai army and cambodian army - this is the collection that Shinawatra had put together to protect his rampage round bangkok in April/May. Your right it is ALL about money - thats all THAKSIN cares about!!

Let me get this right - 15 or so men dressed in black roar up to an army checkpoint on motorcycles and you expect the army to do nothing - as an ex british paratrooper i know one thing - i would have fired before they threw a bomb or fired an M79 grenade over the barricade!!

But the reds still maintain nobody was armed. With overwhelming evidence to the contrary...and blame the government for all the deaths. Unreal.

incidents could be linked to the red shirt protesters, namely the fatal sniper attack on soldiers at Kokwua Intersection on April 10, the firing of M-79 grenades at the Saladaeng BTS station, gun attacks on the checkpoint of security force near Lumpini Park, Krung Thai Bank on Silom Road and the U Chu Liang Building on Rama IV Road, arson on Central World shopping mall and bomb attack at Big C Ratchadamri.

Thats the bottom line Ian. Thanks for setting the record straight. You dress in black and deliberaely look hellbent on menacing armed soldiers, then one gets what they ask for.

Agree - the poor are the pawns in this situation which is all about one man's greed and sociopathic intent - i.e. its a game - but the stakes are the brainwashing of people with little education and some very shrewd captains who continue to extend the deceit and lies to those who would believe. Now the MIB have been ascertained to have been a cause of death, this should turn into the hunt for these mercenaries and they should be exposed, their links exposed and they should be tried and executed. The sooner the better.

It's scary how predictable this year has turned out - that topic was posted in February and, reading through the posts, we have a few clairvoyants on this forum!

Agree.

Well done to the Abhisit government for setting a platform that Thailand so desperately needs at the top...honesty.

.............and well done to all the posters in this thread for sensible postings!!

It won't last I fear.

The opportunity is there for more obfuscation and diversion for the cause.

I would tend to agree.

Despite the findings that both the Reds and Army were involved, that won't suffice to some.

The whole thing is point less. The word knows the red shirts started civil disobedience and the Government fought back. People die. It only makes sense that most of the killing was done by the army. What the #@$%*&^)+ were they supposed to do stay home and watch terrorist willfully try to destroy Bangkok. Invade hospitals bomb transit stations put thousands of honest citizens out of work all to bring in a man who will steal them blind if he gets the chance.

Give it a break move on.:(

I think better wait for the real report to come out before commenting or is this official?

"the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) said yesterday."

It's not the final report into all the deaths, but I think it's an official DSI released statement.

And maybe you should, in turn, read even slower as an aid to comprehension. There is no ambiguity about the cause of Pte Sala's tragic death. The preliminary report is just being customarily polite to the military. No doubt, Pte Sala's family want to hear the truth to help closure on their grief. Thankfully, propagandist posters from TV don't work for the relevant state departments, otherwise there wouldn't be a cat in hel_l's chance of the truth surfacing.
