I'm going to sell my Canon 70-300 DO IS USM. see Thaivisa classified HERE. This useful and super compact zoom is not enough for the photographic hunt I am doing here in Koh Phangan and few month ago I was close to Nakhon Si Thammarat and I saw a lagoon FULL of water birds!

For this reason I need a more powerful tele, I cannot afford the big guns from Canon and my choice is going to the Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM. Any feedback, experience, pros and cons?

I have a email correspondence with a guy in Fotofile MBK about buying a Sigma 150-500 (many positive feedback on the net). The guy, very competent and helpful firmly doesn't recommend me to buy that one but the Canon 100-400 for a 20.000 baht more. For sure Canon should be better, but really that Sigma is so bad?

Anybody has some experience/suggestion about?

Guess the biggest issue is the slow speed though for a lens that long it is not that bad. Reviews indicate it needs to be stopped down quite a bit to get sharp images, around f11. Some info and examples below though it appears you have been checking sites out already.

35,500 Baht for the Sigma 150-400 against 60.000 Baht for the Canon 100-400.

Sure Canon easy resale, better quality and for the snob with white color, but reading many reviews and forums on the net I found much much more positive than negative feedback.

And, last but not least, it costs half.

I got yesterday my 150-500, trade with my 70-300 Canon. I will post some pictures ASAP. The baby is big, and I got a small brother too, a Macro 150 2.8, Sigma too, good glass for my macros
