Rapist and murderer marry in Belgian cell

2010-11-25 00:49:49 GMT+7 (ICT)

LEUVEN, BELGIUM (BNO NEWS) -- A rapist and a murderer have been married in a Belgian cell on Wednesday, officials said, saying it is a human right to get married.

The local HLN newspaper reported that the wedding between the men took place on Wednesday morning in the Leuven-Central prison in Leuven, located about 26 kilometers (16 miles) east of Brussels. Their names were not released.

HLN reported that one of the two men is serving a life sentence for three murders, while the other is serving an eight-year prison sentence for rape. Their families and friends and staff at the prison attended the wedding.

"Marriage is an international human right and we only have to check if the conditions to get married are correct," said Dirk Vansina, who performed the wedding. "The rule which says a marriage has to take place at the town hall has two exceptions, namely prison and the hospital."

Vansina said it wasn't the first time that a couple got married in prison in Belgium, although most marriages which take place are between a man and a woman.

Thaivisa is becoming more and more sensationalist and tabloid alike...<_<

I suppose it draws the audience they want ?

There is SO much more important news in the world but nothing of that on TV.

In Europe this "news" is put on page 7 with 3 sentences but it's HEADLINES on WORLD NEWS with Thaivisa.

I am thinking if they changed it from World News, to Random News, these types of articles would make more sense.
