They're everywhere in Thailand. They reflect the different kingdoms and peoples who have created modern Thailand. As you move about the country you will notice how the styles have changed.

Buddhas in Bangkok

I actually have very few recent pictures of Buddha statues, so many pictures are on the internet that being original is pretty tough.

Here is one I took about 2 years ago with the Canon 450D and the kit lens.

Phra Atchana in Wat Si Chum, Sukhothai.

And here is one that has been taken by my son with a Nikon D90 in Ayuttaya.

The Buddha is in the background.

Don't know the name of this Wat on Siri Island, Phuket (all deserted and locked up, poked the camera through some bars to get this shot)

P.S. sorry, didn't resize the images so, right click and 'open in new tab' to see them better :)

The reason Buddha statues are one of my favourite photographic subjects is that they are among the few things in Thailand that don't start smiling and making hand gestures whenever a camera is pointed at them.

Perhaps because lots of them already are smiling and making hand gestures? Maybe that's why everyone else does it? :D

Which is home to a reclining Buddha, unusual due to the fact it is resting on the left and not the right as normally seen.

Another old slide from 1988, showing Thailand's most revered Buddha statue, The Emerald Buddha at Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok.

Since I was not allowed to take pictures inside I had to use a tripod and a zoom from outside to take this photo.
