Vishnu - Rama

Featured Replies

Buddhists and Hindus chant here.

At the 2 minute mark, the Comment is, 'the King is believed to be a reincarnation of Vishnu'

at 1;30 it says Rama is one of 10 avavatars of Vishnu.

My imagination is that Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke, an outstanding man, was selected by Vishnu for the authority of Ramahood, not that He was Vishnu on earth?

<<< is it one of these or something different?

Ramathibodi—"Rama, the avatar of God Vishnu to become the great ruler"; from Sanskrit rama + adhi ("great") + patī ("president")

Adulyadej—"Incomparable power," from Sanskrit atulya ("incomparable") +teja ("power")

Poraminthara—"the great," from Sanskrit parama ("great") + indra ("leader")

Bhumibol—"Strength of the Land," from Sanskrit bhumi ("land") +bala ("strength")

Hi

In Hinduism there are belived to be 10 major Avatars of Vishnu, or more sepending on the source:

"The Bhagavata Purana describes Vishnu's avatars as innumerable, though there are ten incarnations (Dasavatara, Sanskrit: ten avatars) that are widely seen as his major appearances.[1][4] Krishna and Rama are the two mostly widely known and worshiped avatars of Vishnu, with their stories told in the two popular epics, the Mahabharata and the Ramayana"

Perhaps the king is seen as a minor avatar, not one of the ten major ones, who include Buddha.

I personally find the Hindu complications added to Buddhism a screen around something wihich is quite wonderful, but each to their own.
