Christmas Day. Was to meet Robblok to fish at Shadow lake today but we made a detour to check out Amazon Fishing Park for future trip. Steve and I liked what we saw and decided to fish here. My apology to Robblok we will fish with you in the near future at Shadow Lake.

As we didn't have light tackle the owner rented his personal tackle-Shimano Stellar 2500 a marvelous reel-for 200baht. The ticket was 500baht and only for luring and fly fishing. No dead or live bait. The pond is very near to Shadow Lake. Not big ideal for luring.

The owner keeps cow,horse,snales,turkys,chicken,eagle and all sorts of wild creatures.

We caught arapamais.,catfishes and barramundis which if free to bring home. Very pleasant owner. Worth a visit

And the highlight of the day when Steve caught on lure a 200 lbs mekong on 16lbs light tackle and on lure. This fish was hooked at 6pm and Steve fought it for 55 minutes,The owner put it in a holding tank after it was brought out.

My friend Dave who fished with Robbllok at Shadow Lake joined us in the evening to fish and since he didn't catch anything the owner didn't charge him.

Nice going guys, and i am sure we will fish somewhere in the future. I think i will go there once too looks like a fun place to go to. I will have to look if i have some light tackle. Its amazing that that big mekong was reeled in on only a 16lb line.

Shadow was bad fishing yesterday. I had my fun but fishwise it was bad. Dave did have his carp though. You guys made the right decission.

I have found it somewhere on the map once its not too far from Shadow lake (in the general area). I havent been there yet but i am sure to go there once to see. I will have to get some lures and a light rod.

Last fishing day of the year with friends at Amazon today. Good fishing and enjoyable day. And the resident cow went for swim in the pond and some pictures of their minature zoo.

The 200lbs mekong caught by Steve died. What is baffling was the owner's decision put it in a holding tank. We saw it all chopped up in the freezer and they are selling it for food. On our second trip Steve ordered Tom Yam mekong for lunch. What a waste!!!!!

I would say putting it in a holding tank is not a smart thing to do.. especially if no oxygen is added because the water would be warmer then normal water therefor not capable of holding much oxygen.

The holding tank have aeration. The owner told us the pond was stocked with 4 huge mekong-3 were at 90kg plus and 1 at 110kg- now 2 died and 1 was to quote the owner "transferred" to another pond.Now left the 110kg mekong. My guess was his purpose was either to transfer or sell this mekong but unfortunately it died. There is quite a demand for this size mekongs from fishing parks.

Just to let people know, I got my Thai friend to the ring the owner today and she was told that it is 500baht for Thai's and 1000baht for Farang's.

That is a price i would not pay and i heard others did not pay it either. I mean other farang's, i often get into bungsamran also for Thai price.

We were all charged 500baht and we are all farangs. On my 2nd visit I met JohnTom who was flyfishing in fact there were a good number of farangs fishing too.

I'm going to go on Saturday anyway with my friend and his Thai girlfriend, so hopefully we'll be able to get away with paying 500baht. If I have to pay 1000baht I will go once but probably never again.

Well it's not the money but the principle. Perhaps you could say your friends told you of this pond and they paid 500baht.

Hi All,

went to Amazon on friday and fished it hard all day. I and my friend both lost big (20kg-ish) Arapaima at the bank one taken on fly/popper combo and the other on soft plastic. My friend landed one small Arapaima again taken on fly.

Would really like to get some tips on fishing techniques for Amazon.

Locals seemed to be using small lures fished on the bottom? Owner suggested small lures and small dark flies.

Mostly I fish for Baramundi and the technique seems to be very different.

Appreciative for any tips and advice;)

Just to update. My 3 friends fished on monday-21st Feb 2011-and they were charged 1500baht. They called ahead but as they are here on holiday they paid this amount. And they are going again today. The reason the owner gave was there is a high death rate for the fishes.

My Malaysian friends fished at Amazon yesterday paid 500baht. My 3 British friends asked taxi driver to call Amazon to make arrangement and likely the taxi driver got a kick back.
