Where do people like to go for a drink or a meal local to them.

I have a couple of favourites in Chiang Mai, Chillis Restaurant in Rydges for lunch, so long as there are no old farts there with a skin full of piss and bad manners, and The Escape, near Prince Hotel.

Chillis is good at lunch time for the buffet which is quite cheap and good food. The Escape has good food, cold beer and no tourists or old army chaps. :o

I am into clubbing so here are some fevorites

Bangkok

Bed Supperclub >> Hip hop night on Tuesday, Young people

Sunday night -- chill out music

Good restaurant too! Asian fusion food but quite expensive

( last time I went there with other 3 friends, full course menu plus one bottle of wine cost us total 10000 baht ) I think >> ok,I bought an experience!

Q bar >> My mate spins every Friday night with his house music.

2 places above are full with Farangs so if you look for Thai, you will be disappointed BUT if you look for decent thai females, u will find them there!

Am i turning this topic to suggest pick up spots?

In Phuket I keep away from the tourist areas and head into Phuket Town.

The Timber Hut, which is quite famous (15+ years been open) for great music, Thai Band and Farang singer - top 40 style stuff, nice crowd 40% farang and 60% Thai.

Another in Phuket Town is Jammin, owned by white Jamaican - brilliant Thai Band singing english and Thai - full on Rock'n'Roll, a younger crowd and of course us around 40 year old farangs banging our heads. About same ratio of Thai and Farangs 40/60.

Restaurants - de book (french), koh jok see - restaurant/lounge, and McDonalds!

'Saxaphone Pub' rules, man ! :o

The music there (jazz and blues) is not exactly my favorite kind of music but I have found the quality of the bands there really high and there is always a good mix of customers there. And, the location is great too. And you can always play pool on the second floor.

If only beer prices weren't a bit too steep (they are a bit steep for my liking) !

For those who don't know, it is located at Victory Monument (underneath the skytrain platform).

Regards,

Jem

Hold your horse there Jooplo.....you have just stereotype all farang men in Bangkok or inThailand for that matter. Have you experiences all of them......maybe you have .......says a lot for you. But yes you should go and live overseas for a while, it may help to open your blind eyes to the world. Next time make sure your brain is engaged before you put your mouth into gear !!

Just for another blindsiding jooplo, who is your English Tutor?

He/She is quite good. Your spelling is appalling but you make good words.

I think it is not neccessary for me to answer your question

but i think the one who teachs me is not the same as yours.

Do not take things too personal ... :o

Soi Ari, Paholyothin Soi 7 has some great restruarants and little bars to hang out at..(and I am not refering to the gay scene a bit further up the road either!). Try "Home no. 6" for some nice Thai and Farang food.

Also, down Narathiwat soi 15 are a bunch of decent Thai restuarants built in funky old mid 60's houses. Monkey Shock down that way is pretty good.

Kuppa on Suk 16 for a nice spot of lunch.

Also like some places in Soi Convent, Indigo and Eat Me restuarants, great for some quality food.

La Piola and Calderazo have great Italian food.

A great quality watering hole for one drink only (as thats all I can afford) is Vertigo, on the roof of the Banyan Tree. Great views of BKK this time of year and even cooler up there. Great place to bring visitors to BKK. Classy and cool. they wont let you in shorts and sandles either!

Silom soi 4 or course. At the other end of the scale, cheap charlies is great for a drink and a curry.

Am fond of last Friday of the month at the Bulls Head, crappy 80's and 90's disco music once in a while is always fun.

IT - Is it right to plug, what is in effect, your establishment?? I thought it was outside the rules here?

As a place to meet for a lunch or an evening meal, I like Mango Tree in CM. Great atmosphere, food is excellent. After 12 the beer is cold. BangkokPost on tap. Seating either on the street or inside if the weather isn't to your liking.

Get there before 1300 and have a chat to Phil. Nice guy. Good grasp of English.

Good range of coffeees and teas, plus an assortment of fruit shakes that are quite acceptable to the pallette (sic) of my off-springs.

No I am sorry it is quite an abhorrent practice.

I believe all CM members should meet at Mango Tree weekly to discuss board moderation questions. All in favour say "aye".

Beer 60 baht large Chang. Recommend the burgers. :o

Just reading this thread and browsing Rydges' website and all this talk makes me "home"-sick... and I just got back from BKK only a week or two ago!

Can't wait until I can move there permanently... :o

Actually I was referring to the poster not the place.. But in fact I was joking. Membrane can come any time he likes and welcome.
