Hashimotos/Hypothyroidism And Doctors Answer To Depression

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Disease 6 years ago while I was working in Germany. I initially went for some follow up blood work since I had a previous physical/blood work that found something wrong with my liver, can not remember what exactly it was but the report stated that it was from drinking or could be Hepatitis C. Thus the follow up blood work in Germany.

Test was negative for Hep C but the doctor checked for Thyroid problems also did an Ultra Sound to find a goiter. Sent me to another specialist to have iodine injected and another type of scan performed. Results, Hashimotos. Rx, 150 micrograms of Levothyroxine daily.

I have gone to hospitals in Thailand to check my levels and they said they are okay and to keep the same dosage.

Years ago I told the one doctor I was depressed and basically had no response.

Now for the last 3 years I had taken Fluoxetene, 20mg daily. It more or less helped me with anxiety/panic attacks and little bit with depression. (Self/family diagnosed. Mother, brother and 2 sisters with Hypothyroid and depression taking same 20mg a day).

It has been over 2 years since I had my levels checked and at that time I told the doctor I was taking the depression medication and asked him about changing to Wellbutrine because of weight gain.

His immediate response was that I need to talk to a Pshyc Doctor for that.

Does not Hypothyroidism and Depression usually exist together and would you not expect the Trained Professional you are seeing help you to explore other alternatives within their field of work? I think given the time the doctor in Germany would of handled matters differently since he took the time to run some extra test that are always neglected. Just like the physical and blood work I had to do for employment just a few months prior.

I have recently found that taking a T3 supplement and lowering your T4 meds helps with the depression and weight loss.

I do not drink anymore. It has been 2 years now but the weight does not go down. Plus I went cold turkey off the Fluoxetene about 3 weeks ago.

I want to make an appointment at Bumrungrad next week before I leave Thailand and have thought about making it with Dr. Rosanee who has been mentioned on TV. Maybe she can make a change in my life for the better.

Any thoughts with getting on a T3 supplement?

Thanks for listening to my rambles.
