Hi,

I'm an exploration Geologist who trots the globe remote places as part of my

some time perilous work,

I'm looking to insure my self against all possible mishaps including death and

incapacitated ability to generate income as well as air lift and repatriation to the

UK for medical treatment,

This policy should cover me well and to insure adequate coverage to provide for

my young family for long time,

If any one has an idea what policy or where should i start to look please let me know,

THANK YOU ALL.....

Thanks TVI ... very informative contribution to the Forum.

Questions that could be generally discussed on this forum by the 'experts' are coverages that apply to professionals who work in multiple jurisdictions.

Is he a 'white-collar' geologist or does he accompany seismic and drilling crews to remote inhospitable locations ... this would affect the type of Life and accident /accidental death coverage as such categories are based upon risk engendered.

Is he subject to possible kidnappings or terrorist activities or other types of 'political risk'

Does he require professional liability coverage or completion type situations

Does he travel to regions where there are endemic diseases as this would affect health insurance, etc.

But Naah ... just tell him to fill out the form...

To the OP, are you a member of any of the geological societies? Like SEG, EAGE or SEAPEX? They usually have hookups with the appropriate sort of insurance carriers.

I am in a very similar boat so to speak.

Working globally often in some very remote locations I required very similar insurance i.e. cover against loss of income (i.e. I wished to be provided minimal income should I become incapacitated for any reasons, injury, car crash, lasting tropical illness or other)...

In short: No UK insurance company would touch me.

No local insurance company responded intelligently.

I gave up the search a few years ago. If you do find something suitable please post it on this forum.

The medical cover I have is under Bupa - it's comprehensive (I declined repatriation to the UK), it includes medi-vac. But it does not cover insurance against loss of income.

I have also approached companies with regards to life insurance, however, given my job etc and expected reasonable pay out the premiums were ridiculous and not worth considering.

^ Gotta start somewhere no? Sure ... but that doesn't mean that the FORUM discussion has to start and end simultaneously.

Wow chill out it's a great day !! The question was asked where to start looking and quite rightly TVI said so send in more details which is quite fair - cannot go into personal details on an open forum

Wow, What a mix bag of responses,to do a local coverage in Thai baht it would be far to low sum

of compensation to even be considered, Thai insurance companies are mainly Thai baht orientated,

and catering to local demands and local pay structures,

In reply to jazzbo input, yes, i'm potentially subjected to all the issues you have raised in

your contribution, currently i'm exploring for gold in a remote area of the republic of the Congo,

( scary place)

To NanLaew, thank you for the suggestion, yes I'm a member of an a geologist society and i will

follow it up,

To richard_smith237, your comments were the most relevant and appreciated, now i have an idea

where to start and what to expect,

Keep up the good work and many thanks to all..

cannot go into personal details on an open forum ... who said anything anbout personal details ... just a discussion of hazard work in remote locations as an independent contractor ... BTW C1969 in reviewing your posting history as regareds TVI you may be Kuhn Bazmlb's Mother...

BTW I have no idea about these folkls but they say:

High risk life insurance requires the attention, knowledge and experience of specialists in providing life insurance for high risk jobs.

It is probably self-evident to suggest that office workers are statistically less likely to be seriously injured or killed at work than

builders, roofers, offshore workers or firefighters.

It is unlikely that having a hazardous occupation would universally exclude you, although some companies may not wish to offer cover. High risk occupations that need to be considered include miners, pilots, professional sportsmen and sportswomen, steeplejacks, aerial riggers, divers and off-shore riggers.

(sorry about the underlines)

from another:

Hazardous Occupations

Many people must work in

hazardous occupations as their primary source of income. Pilots,

aviation or scuba diving instructors or firefighters are a few examples

of high risk jobs. As unfair as it might seem, all these professionals

can expect to pay higher term life insurance premiums. However,

reasonable term life insurance coverage is still possible if you obtain

necessary licenses and take safety classes. It is best to ask your

insurance carrier about the necessary requirements so that you can meet

them before applying for coverage.

Statistically, the greatest danger to an exploration geologist is having his ass kicked by a driller irked by his pedantic demands. The best insurance is to always keep a case of beer handy, even in a dry camp.
