2 Different Arrival Dates.. Best Visa?

Recommended Posts

OK, here goes.....

I am going to Bangkok from Vancouver in a few days and will just do a normal 30-day visa.... my girlfriend arrives BKK from Brussels 2 or 3 weeks after.... what might be the best way to arrange visas so we both end up with the same visa duration on our extended (60+ day) stay in BKK?

We do not have forwarding tickets as we are backpacking overland around Asia for a couple years....

Appreciate any input!!!!

From Canada they may not let you on flight without a visa so that is the first issue. You can easily obtain visa or visa exempt entry to allow stay once here - there is no need for any exact match and one can always leave at will.

Thanks, Canadians don't need a visa for the first 30 days after landing..... have just been in Thailand before returning to Vancouver for a couple weeks before returning to Bangkok.

Bottom line I guess is how to get a 60-day or 90-day visa with a ticket out of BKK.....

But you do require onward transportation to qualify for 30 day visa exempt entry and it appears you will not have that and airlines can deny boarding in that case. Better to get your tourist visa before you depart and then you can cross a border to obtain visa or visa exempt entry if not enough time.

I flew into BKK on December 29, 2010 from Amsterdam without onward transportation with no problems and they never asked......

On that occasion they did not.

Next time they might.

It is a requirement to enter Thailand. If you are refused entry the Airline are fined and responsible for taking you back.

You can check Here. Use the drop down menu.

OP

You could get a double entry tourist visa, or if possible a 90 day non immigrant visa, your girlfriend could get a single tourist visa (60 day stamp)or double (2 x 60 day stamps)they are free at the moment. extensions of 30 day can be obtained at local immigration offices (1,900 baht)

That is why we correctly advised to obtain a tourist visa for entry and that there would not then be a possible issue with airline. It is visa exempt entry that requires onward travel documents. And that is what you were talking about using in your original post with reference to 30 day allowed stay. A tourist visa allows a 60 day stay for your nationality.
