Hi there

This is an unusual one I think and certianly seems too odd for the Thia immigration!

I am a UK citizen with a UK passport. I have been here in LOS for many years and I have a marriage visa in my passport.

I recently applied to the UK embassy for a second UK passport as I travel a lot and need to submit one for visas while I use the other one.

So I have two valid UK passports both with the same name and photo etc but different numbers of course.

When I applied I checked with Thai immigration if they could copy across my marriage visa to the second passport as clearly there is no point having two passports if you can;t use them both to enter and leave Thailand.

They said "no problem"... Now they can;pt get their heads around it and say they have never seen tow valid passports and they want to cancel the first!

I don't understand why they can't get their head around the fact that the visa is granted to me not my passport so it should be copied to wherever I need it. For example if I had dual citizenship presumably I could have a visa in each nationality passport.

Any comments anyone form those in the know here?

Thans a lot

what do you have in your passport a 'visa' issued at an embassy/consulate in another country or a one year extension of stay issued at immigration?

I too have several UK passports, I've never had the need to have my Thai visa in more than one of them, just use that one to enter / leave Thailand.

Yes, I have a one year extension of stay issued at immigration (sorry, not clear form me) so it is that that I wanted also stamped in my second passport... can they do that?

Yes they can do that and it is free but it would only be done if original passport was made invalid for some reason; or lost and your Embassy is expected to write a letter asking for it to be done.

Yes, I guess so. The funny thing is (well I shouldn't be at all surprised really considering this is Thailand) is that the immigration are saying that it is really dodgy I have two passports and they have never seen this and how did I do this etc...

Lots of my friend have two passports and some have their Thai one year extensions in both passports but I just haven't the energy to argue with people that can't even get their head around why I have two passports! This place never ceases to amaze me...

As you can only use one passport , When you enter or exit Any country, and that includes the Airlines, the name in the passport has to be the same as on the Airline ticket.I would expect that the only current passport that is valid is the latest one, because the last one would be canceled on the Boarder agency Computed records, allegedly. So simple only use the one that is current until it expires. If thats the one with the visa stamp in or what ever stamps that you have acquired then you would have to apply for a new one anyway , Most country's will not let you in anyway without 6 months life on the passport anyway.

The UK permits one to hold several valid passports if one has sufficient reason, nothing suspicious and nothing illegal.

Our OP has just got his second.

eddiefalcon, you are new to the simultaneous use of two passports and you have started off on the wrong foot.

Mistake No. 1: you went to the immigration office and asked to have your permission to stay in Thailand stamped in both passports.

Mistake No. 2: you started this topic griping about the inability of immigration "to get their head around" your problem.

There are a number of other ThaiVisa members with two passports for exactly the same reason as you mentioned and the clever thing to do would have been to ask them how they use them. As it is, these people will probably not be reading this topic because of the title you gave it.

The fact is you do not need your Thai permission to stay in both passports. You are currently in Thailand and your Thai stamps are in your passport (PP) no. 1. Therefore, you continue to use PP-1 to exit Thailand and, upon your return, to enter Thailand. You need to get a visa to travel, for example to Mali, and it takes two weeks to get that visa. Send off PP-2 for the Mali visa.

You have to travel to Singapore and Hong Kong while waiting for the Mali visa (that's why you needed a second passport, after all) and you use PP-2 for this. When you get back from Hong Kong your Mali visa is ready and when you travel there, you use PP-1 to exit Thailand, PP-2 to enter and exit Mali, PP-1 to enter Thailand on your return. It's as simple as that. Thai immigration does not need to know that you have two UK passports. You don't need to explain anything about it to them.
