Catching Mekong Catfish On Koh Samui

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I'm fairly new to the forums, so forgive me if I bring up something that has been beat to death, but I saw some videos on YouTube which showed some people catching giant catfish and carp at a lake (or lakes) on Koh Samui. I am curious what's up with that? Is that just a tourist thing or is there really lake fishing on Koh Samui?

Thanks for the info.

Rick

I think you mean " Top Cats " in Taling nam. I believe he has some really big fish in his lake if that is your thing though it isn't cheap.

On the way to Thaling Ngan , perhaps 1/2 to 1 km off the ring road, there is a fishing place... (S.W. area of the island, turn right if coming from Nanton, there is a flashing light, & 7-11 on left, if I remember) ...

The road way in the area is lined with cut out figures with fishing rods .... I suspect this may be the place you saw on You Tube???

I've never stopped to check out, since fish always disappear when I try fishing... & I don't think the place would be overrun with fishing tourists.

It's a pleasant and quieter area of the island with some nice secluded beaches if you take time to seek them out !

Thanks for the info.

It was the Top Cats lake. I expect it is fairly expensive. I might check it out as a one time thing, since I have never caught a fish larger than 2-3 kilos.

Thanks again.

Rick

I have had a few customers who have fished at Top Cats a while back. They did catch some huge fish.

I cannot remember the prices and they used to do an 'overnight' fishing session.

I understand that they will also collect and return people to their hotels
