THE MRTA HAS PROPOSED 3 CONFIGURATIONS FOR THE PURPLE & ORANGE LINE EXTENSIONS

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand has proposed a total of 3 varieties of investment configurations for the extension of the Purple Line and Orange Line electric train routes.

Traffic Policy and Planning Office Director Khamrob_lak Surassawadi (คำรบลักขิ์ สุรัสวดี) has held a meeting with the Mass Rapid Transit Authority to receive the MRTA's ideas on modifying the investments for the Bangyai-Ratchaburana (บางใหญ่-ราษฎร์บูรณะ) extension of the Purple Line, and the Bangkapi-Bangbamru (บางกะปิ-บางบำหรุ) extension of the Orange Line.

Mr. Khamrob_lak said the MRTA has proposed 3 configurations for the system that will be used. These include heavy rail electric train, light rail electric train, and BRT rapid bus. Initially it was found that the heavy rail system, despite the fact it would take a long time to yield the break-even point, as it would cost around 1.2 billion baht per kilometre, would be able to provide accommodation for as long as 30 years, facilitating transport for 15,000 passenger per hour. The light rail system, with the capacity of 20,000 passengers in each direction and costing 800 million baht per kilometre, will be able to provide accommodation for around 20 years. As for the BRT system, it would be able to provide accommodation for less than 10 years, with its 10,000 passengers in each direction capacity, and would require a minimum of 400 million baht per kilometre.

These options will be considered further over the coming months.
