President Obama says U.S. is preparing a full range of options on Libya's crisis

WASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- United States President Barack Obama on Wednesday said that his administration is preparing a full range of options to respond to the Libya's crisis.

Obama added that these options include actions that will coordinate with allies and partners as well as through multilateral institutions as the situation in Libya is a concern for the international community.

"The suffering and bloodshed is outrageous and it is unacceptable. So are threats and orders to shoot peaceful protesters and further punish the people of Libya. These actions violate international norms and every standard of common decency. This violence must stop," President Obama said.

In addition, Obama asked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to travel to Geneva next Monday to participate in a session of the Human Rights Council along a number of foreign ministers.

Clinton will hold consultations with her counterparts on events throughout Libya in order to ensure that the U.S. and the international community speak with one voice to the government and the people of Libya.

President Obama remarked that the events taking place in Libya is being driven by the people of the region and does not represent the work of the United States or any foreign power as former Cuban leader Fidel Castro said this week.

"The United States also strongly supports the universal rights of the Libyan people. That includes the rights of peaceful assembly, free speech, and the ability of the Libyan people to determine their own destiny. These are human rights and they cannot be denied through violence or suppression," added Obama.

Obama said that the U.S. priority is to protect American citizens in Libya. Furthermore, Obama supported the message of the U.N. Security Council condemning the violence in Libya.

"Throughout this time of transition, the United States will continue to stand up for freedom, stand up for justice, and stand up for the dignity of all people."

I see that the piece you're quoting from is entitled:

"The Obama Administration's War on Civil Liberties and Free Speech"

Part of that article reads:

"The Secretary's hypocrisy and mendacity would be amusing if the American people hadn't already lived through a decade where the cheapening of constitutional rights, particularly First and Fourth Amendment guarantees, hadn't been eroded to the point of savage annihilation by all branches of government and by both capitalist parties."

I didn't realise that Obama had been President for the past 10 years?

The EU should act and do more than it does now; only empty words apart from planes and ships they send to evacuate their citizens but no real help yet to protect the Lybian people, afraid as they are, depending on Lybian oil.

The U.S. stays on the sideline since they have little to none interests in Lybia since most of the Lybian oil goes to Europe.

The importance of Egypt was far beyond that of Lybia to the U.S.

What is of a lot more importance is how and what is the western world going to do about the enormous explosion of "freedom" screams of more than 300 million Arabs.

I've never seen anything alike in the world in so many countries at the same time and period; not even during the collapse of the Soviet Union; but, of course, in that period the people didn't have social media like the Internet, Facebook, Twitter, mobile phones, computers etc.

This is the revolution of the social media.

Without the social media it would not have been possible; this is only the beginning of an enormous turnaround but also very scary eruption of hundreds of millions of people since nobody knows where this is going to end. It must be very scary for Israel also.

The Saudi King, playing Santa Claus now upon his return from the U.S. and Morocco, is scared to death if he says he will invest $ 28 Billion into the country to satisfy the needs of his people. He should have done so 5-10 years ago and make every citizen a bloody Millionaire!

It's too late now and it's amazing -almost unbelievable- to see and watch that the arrogance of the dictators and royalty of all Northern African and Middle Eastern countries was so deeply rooted in their own brains that they didn't see this smoldering fire amongst their citizens, now bursting into flames as high as the skies....

Frightening, very frightening!
