HIGH-PERFORMANCE JUNIOR TENNIS CLINICS

by PTR certified professional coach David Gorrez

@ The 50 Tennis Clubs (Sukhumvit 50)

Junior tennis players between the ages of 10 and older are invited to hone their competitive edge this summer at the 50 Tennis and Fitness Clubs. The 50 Tennis facility will be the venue of a high-performance tennis program aimed at developing latent junior tennis talents and grooming participants for serious competitive pursuit. Said program will revolve around the conduct of a single class, billed the Active Competitor Clinic, and will be delivered in three consecutive courses over the summer break. Each two-week course will require a commitment to 10 sessions of intense on-court training and will focus not only on technique and strategy but on the mental and emotional aspects of total player development as well. In recognition of the high physical demands of modern tennis, a rigorous fitness regimen will also be an integral part of each session. All classes will be under the direct supervision of PTR-certified coach David Gorrez.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

With the active tournament player in mind, this course is intended not only to add to and enhance skills already in each student’s repertoire but to also include the dimensions of mental toughness and emotional stability, both key factors in a winning tennis game. Specialized training will provide the mental tools necessary to accelerate the shot selection process and condition the player to most effectively utilize the strategic weapons he/she has at his/her disposal. As this will be a class specifically for regular competitors, participants will be made to set long- and short-term career goals and will be taught how to create a personalized roadmap towards achieving set goals. A list of prerequisites is as follows

  • Tennis must be the candidate’s primary competitive sport;
  • Candidates must be currently-active tournament players (nationally-ranked players will receive preference) or must have played in at least one tournament in the last 3 months and 4 tournaments in the last year;
  • Each candidate must undergo a skills evaluation that includes basic ground strokes, volleys, overheads, serves, and match play;
  • Each candidate must pass a fitness test that includes timed wind sprints and endurance runs, as well as simple strength and flexibility exercises;

With reference to the above, prerequisite (2) may be waived at the instructor’s discretion.

Upon initiation into the program each participant must be willing to accept instruction as described for the class and deliver 100% effort in all exercises and match play. In this connection, all students will be held to a standard of performance which will be clearly defined and the willingness of each student to follow instructions at 100% effort will be constantly tested. Medium of instruction will be English, although fluency in English is NOT a requirement.

A maximum of eight (8) students will be accepted into each course on a first-come-first-served basis, post-evaluation.
