Hello everyone,

not been on here in a while and little out of touch with what Samui has to offer ...

but am visiting again next month but also want to go to phuket ... can you fly straight there ? what other realistic methods are there ?

thanks

Our one and only boutique airline, Bangkok Airways, has four flights a day to Phuket.

It takes an hour and at the moment the minimum cost is about THB 2,675.

I will let others tell you about land alternatives. which I am sure will cost you less!!

You can fly as stated, or there are buses going over many times per day, it's about 4 hrs from Phuket to Donsak, which is the ferry terminal for the boat trip over. Boats leave every hour and the trip takes approx 1.5hrs. You can buy through tickets at any local travel shop that will include your fare right through to Samui. If you have a rental car, it's a nice drive too, particularly if you use the older highway that takes you by the Rajjaphraba Dam, which takes a bit longer but is more scenic.

u can if u think u can. U can fly flying with the wind see where it takes your. Maybe u can join me on my quest to seek the holy Grail.

or u coukd fly bangkok airways they fly 5 times a day from Samui to Phuket

right back off to Camalot whoooosh !!!!!!!!!!! :whistling:

There is another alternative though if u want to hurry then u should fly cause the buses are crap.

Or u could go to a nation car rental like budget or avis. rent a car drive to nathong gethe 1 hr 30 minte ferry to donsak then drive towards suratthani. then turn onto the highway 44. that goes straight to Krabi. u could spend a few night round there. check out ow nag and some islands then u could either drop the car at the rental point. ( they probably charge u ) and get a speed boat to phuket after island hoping. or drive for another few hours and drop the car in phuket.

u can check on www.bangkokair.co.th for flights

for cars just google avis and budget. they also come with inssurence. u might have to pay etra per day to get ride of the access. different copanies have diferent deals. though i paid etra for inssurnece with no 5000 baht access in bangkok i crtashinto the back of a limo and i did not have to pay for a thing.

infact rarther than take it back u could just smash it into something then get the company to come and get it. lol. no that was a joke though their staff would probably agree. well they did agree. this is thailand

Buses are a nightmare, last time I left at 7am and arrived in Patong at 5pm.............pushed around from pillar to post in Surat for almost 4 hours......fly, its the only option.

I agree with this. I left Samui around 11 am and didn't get there until almost 9pm. What a waste of a day the bus is. Do it once just to see the contryside but after that, just fly.

True.....I've done it twice and last time my travel agent assured me it would be a lot quicker.....what a sucker I am...but it was so cheap....

Fly if you value your sanity.

Let it go smokie. This is Thailand. That means that you end up with what you end up with, despite what you have paid for, and, have been assured you will get by the Thais. They do not see it as a commitment to do what they have said they will do. You will travel in whatever mode of transport they put you in, despite what you were told you would be getting

Come on, you really should have clocked this trait by now. ;)

Considering on return fare of 5500 baht i would suggest flying anyway.

Its very frustrating to have to get up at 6am to get on the bus then have a four hour wait in Surat. If it were advertised in this way then no problem.

All we're doing is spreading the word...if not the love....

I'm over it and know what to expect next time(if ever!).....but them being Thai is no excuse in my book.

Edit: Also be aware that the big bus that takes you to Surat is very comfortable however depending on the number of passengers that day you may find yoursef in a minivan all the way to Phuket as I did. Nice satisfying crunch when I was walking to the taxi stand in the Phuket bus station...no need for a chiropractor!

hmmm think the super VIP bus is best option for me .... 600 bht you can go wrong .... i fancy the earlier one though if it takes less time,

im going to pattaya to visit friends so think flying everywhere is not an option as it costs is starting to add

Posted

it is 600 bht each way im guessing yeah ?

There are 2 of us so if return is 11,000 bht for us then 2400 bht on bus is quite a saving .... pro's and con's for both i accept that .... but 8,500 bht saving could be our accommodation for the week ....

but a plane would be soooo much easier

hmmmm not sure what to do

from Samui you can go directly to one of the two ferries going to Surat Thani and from the pier once arrived to Sura Thani pier you can either order a taxi there or from the town Centre to drive you to Phuket some where on the Island or take a local bus.

Taxi will negociate not more than THB 2000 for two people one way and the journey is motorway less than 3 hours driving.

Very easy only to find the taxi may be less easy but I have done it several times started from Phuket airport to Surat Thani.

Of course flying is possible but with offers very limited.

Cheers

The buses also have offices in Lamai and Nathon.

Here's a map for Chaweng.

Get a ticket from the sales office, depart in minibus to Nathon where you go on the big bus.

agree about 2 k for private hire car share the gas with 1 or 2 people that is the easiest and cheapest and convienant way. if u r on your own then it is about 2500 baht to fly then about 450 baht taxi to patong. go to the taxi stand past all the toutes in phuket airport

they should put that bus on the Samui - Bangkok route, the normal VIP is ok, but this this would make the trip alot better !!! ( plus a mini bar service wouldnt go a miss )

So since we on the subject ....... same question for bangkok to samui ??

i obviously know the main route in but what other options are there ie bus/train ??

any help appriciated thanks

I would opt for the night train down to Surat Thani then the high speed cat to Samui. Failing that Lomprayah now do an all in one ticket where you fly to Surat and take the bus and then high speed cat to Samui.

Lomprhaya also do the bus to chumphon and Cat to Samui, cost approx 1,400..or VIP bus from South Terminal, cost approx 1,000
