KOBLENZ, GERMANY (BNO NEWS) -- A man nicknamed the 'German Fritzl' by media on Tuesday was sentenced to over 14 years in prison for sexually abusing and raping his daughter and his twin stepsons.

According to DPA news agency, Detlef S., 48, admitted in court to 160 counts in regards to sexually abusing his daughter, stepson, and his stepdaughter, with whom he also fathered seven children.

In addition, the defendant also forced his two daughters to have sex with men in exchange for money. Judge Winfried Hetger sentenced the 48-year-old truck driver to 14 and a half years in prison.

On Monday, Detlef S. admitted only abusing his daughter and to fathering seven children with his step-daughter at the Koblenz Court. The move was considered a desperate attempt to reduce sentence.

Eventually, the defendant acknowledged the 160 counts for the offenses committed between 1987 and 2010. He began abusing his 18-year-old daughter when she was nine years old.

The victims told the court they were terrified of him to report the abuse which occurred at a home in the village of Fluterschen, 100 kilometers north-west of Frankfurt. The case surfaced after a letter handed to youth welfare officers by the daughter last year.

The case has been compared with the one of Austrian Joseph Fritzl. In 2009, Fritzl, 74, was sentenced to life for fathering seven children with his daughter Elisabeth. He kept her locked in a dungeon for 24 years and raped her in repeated occasions.

I generally am not one of the "hang-em-high" crowd but I would have thought One year in prison was enough ----- per count --- to be served consecutively.

edit --- note for the math challenged ----- that would be 160 years in prison.
