News_Editor Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 British forces carry out new airstrikes in northeastern Libya 2011-03-25 15:37:10 GMT+7 (ICT) LONDON/TRIPOLI (BNO NEWS) -- British forces on Thursday evening carried out new airstrikes against government troops in northeastern Libya, officials in London confirmed on Friday. British Defense Secretary Liam Fox said British Tornado GR4 aircraft, while on armed reconnaissance missions over Libya on Thursday evening, carried out a co-ordinated missile strike against units of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in support of UNSC Resolution 1973, which authorizes a no-fly zone over Libya and calls for "all necessary measures" to protect Libyan civilians from government-led attacks. "The Tornado aircraft launched a number of guided Brimstone missiles at Libyan armoured vehicles which were threatening the civilian population of Ajdabiya," Fox said. "Brimstone is a high precision, low collateral damage weapon optimised against demanding and mobile targets." It was not possible to confirm or rule out casualties as a result of the airstrikes. -- © BNO News All rights reserved 2011-03-25
