Chiang Mai Chest?

Featured Replies

Hi

I've had a annoying cough for over a month, I thought it was almost gone but it's decided to come back again a couple of days ago

and is getting worse, with aching ribs, back and shoulders.

I haven't had this before and it's my 4th summer here...

I'm guessing it's quite common here with all the pollution.

How do you guys get rid of it?

Thanks

David

There hasn't been much pollution this season. I would even venture to guess it's been a record low pollution for this period.

Might want to get checked out by a pro.

Go and get yourself checked out at a hospital, pronto.

These are the same symtoms that I got when I contracted dengue fever 9 years aso.

Hey David. I was sick for like 2 mo's, from End Jan thru most of March. It really pissed me off. It was actually a sinus thing but then had a lung n stupid cough component as well. it really just wouldn't go, even when the sinus and general weakness, sick feeling was gone. It seemed to be more than a sick-cough though the air, as stated above, wasn't really that bad. Anyway, I ran into a friend I hadn't seen for several weeks, he'd had the smae thing n gone to see a specialist n he told him he'd had a cold but now had some sort of lung irritation from something in the air, despite the better air quality. I took notes on the inhaler he got, and now, after a week of using it - a very low dose steroid anti-inflammatory - I have no cough whatsoever and it does do alot to help with that feeling of "I'm finally healthy !" I recommend you go to Pharmachoice as they usually have a real pharmacist on hand to answer your questions. What I'm using is called 'Pulmicort Turbuhaler.' I just threw out the indsert a couple days ago, but the active ingredient is some sort of cortico-steroid. I plan to use this one inhaler - it should last about 2 months - by weaning myself with less frequent doses towards the end, and then see where I'm at. Good luck, keep us posted.

And btw... to add to the long story, I did go to Sripat n get a total physical and some blood tests to check organ functions n everything. It was all good. Just minor residue of the sinus infection, and the nagging cough. To my chagrin I was pronounced very healthy.

Perhaps you've developed asthma. That's what happened to me several years ago, it took me a couple of months to realize that I didn't have a chest infection (my GP had been useless).

In my case it turned out to have been triggered by exposure to dust mites (it started immediately after a major house cleaning), but now every winter the asthma returns and I used a Seretide inhaler for a couple of months to keep it under control.

Apparently asthma can suddenly develop like that after years of exposure to allergens like dust mites and air pollution, the body reaches a tipping point and reacts. Coughs can of course be caused by many other things, but It might be worth visiting an allergist to check things out.
