Store Photo'S

Featured Replies

when the memory is full on the camera's memory card where or what is a good device to store photos apart from the laptop

External hard drive, USB, a second memory card.

I do what Dan said. I NEVER store photos on my cameras. I delete them as soon as I've downloaded onto my computer. I've had too many cameras that were lost, stolen or drowned. My pictures are worth more to me than the camera. Then, I always make back-up CDs and DVDs after sorting out the files on my computer. I have thousands of files of pictures stored everywhere. I'm a bit paranoid about it because I once lost the hard drive on my computer and lost hundreds of files that were unrecoverable. Never again.

I have always had a problem with r/w cd media failing after a period of time. I think the tropics are pretty hard on the material that records the data. I always use multiple usb external hard drives as they are very cheap per gig and I find dependable.

I use a device something like this when I am in the field and away from my PC / laptop. Just insert the memory card, push a button, and it copies your images to an internal drive for safe keeping.

Two hard disks, one in my laptop,

and an external backup.

No CD's or DVD's for me either.

the problem - as we found out April 2010 - is burglars like cameras, laptops, and memory sticks too.

I doubt the burglar/s would have taken any CDs or DVDs.

On-line storage is maybe the most secure option.

Safes are not expensive and a good option for valuable items.

I have 3 external hard drives as well as CDs and DVDs. I have never had any problem with CDs or DVDs, but I leave copies in Canada as well as Thailand. I'm a bit paranoid with anything that has moving parts. I carry several small flash drives with me at all times. The 8 gig ones hold a lot of photos before they need clearing. Most of my photos are shot at 3.5 mb or better.
