Beerlao announces new brews

Lao Brewery Company has met all the criteria set by Carlsberg and received the right to produce its beer in Laos .

The international brand beer, produced in Laos , will be on the market on Monday, along with two other new brews.

The Lao Brewery Company (LBC) is a joint venture between the Lao government and foreign investors, in which Carlsberg has a 25 percent holding. LBC has worked alongside Carlsberg during the production of Beerlao and has now upgraded its facilities and production capacity to produce Carlsberg beer itself. Carlsberg is the fifth largest producer of beer worldwide.

LBC yesterday announced the launch of its three new products, including Carlsberg and two new forms of Beerlao – a dark and a light beer.

While Carlsberg will be on sale next week, the two other beers will hit retail outlets in the middle of next month.

So now we get Calsberg in Lao ! Will they export to Thailand?

Interesting. But one thing gnaws at me - if for whatever reason we can't get Beerlao here, why on earth would the powers that be allow Carlsberg back in? I'm staying tuned.

No need to think about possibility of new imports entering Thailand. In case anyone hasn't noticed, the only beers available here at normal prices are Thai brewed beers. Thailand taxes the crap out of any import so the price of said beers are 3 times the price of a Thailand brewed "premium beer (Heineken)". The dude wants to have option of drinking imports and is dissolutioned with Thailand's insistance that only a dozen or so brands are widely available at reasonable cost throughout the country, and of course ALL brands are brewed in Thailand. Imports are available but cost 100+ baht per bottle at store level and are stale as very few sell much at all. The dude does not dig this is any way. The dude will retract shovels as no digging is needed here. Ovenman, back up empty tuk tuk for shovel depository

More money for import taxes = less money for shovels. Tuk-tuk is on the way...

To add to the above, last week Carlsberg brought its stake in Beerlao to 50 percent. In addition to the 25 percent they already owned, they purchased Beer Chang's 25 percent. They are now full partners with the Lao government. This week on my trip to Vientiane I noticed ads for Carlsberg in many restaurants.

Go to this topic (Post #19) and you will see why Beer Lao and Carlsberg will not be available in Thailand. Chang Beer is theoretically an enemy of Carlsberg after Carlsberg pulled out of Thailand a few years ago.

As The Dude said, "Thailand taxes the crap out of any imported beers"'

The ..Bhakdi boys have got the brewing industry sewn up tight . There are a few microbreweries tolerated but they sell in a year what Chang sells in a day.

As long as the brewery mafia in the kingdom are in bed with the government you will have to go to Vientiane or P.P. to get your exotic beers. :o

I think Carlsberg and the Lao government are banking on the ASEAN import export system working properly, no taxes / quotas. It will be interesting to watch the Thai brewing cartels squirm their way around the new level playing field ! ( Ha ).

This time not a rumour but a confirmed fact...

Carlsberg will be re introduced on the Thai market within the next month!!!!!!

Import beer from Laos. Will be a touch moe expensive than ie Heineken but that is due to taxation in Thailand. (Import tax is now 0% but Thailand is imposing other levies on imported beer)

If anyone interested to know how to get in contact with distribution points, please PM....
