Visting my sister and she has some really adorable pets, I have only ever managed to get one great photo of one of them and that was happenstance.

My own dogs are equally tough, I've never really managed to get a good shot of one of them unless it was by sneaking up on them somehow.

Is there a tip to getting good shots or is it just luck of the draw and a really fast focus?

You touched on a good point, sbk. About all I can add is use an SLR camera with good focus time and just have patience. Just shoot, shoot, shoot and hope for the best. I wanted a nice photo of my son's black cat but every time I saw what WOULD have been a good picture, and got my camera, the cat changed position.

I wish red eye worked on them, this one is a classic but a flash is required as the bathroom is dark (kitty likes to drink out of the faucet, while the other cat waits his turn)

If you are just the least bit artistic, you can use Photoshop to fix the eyes later.
