SteeleJoe
Embarrassing - in more ways than one. And I'm no snob -- some of the finest people I've ever known have been young women from a less than reputable background -- but one wonders what kind of machines did that girl used to operate in Thailand? It's an odd thing to me; a Thai woman who can go live abroad would seem to be someone from an upper middle class family at least but one wouldn't expect her to wind up a machine operator -- and you certainly wouldn't expect her to behave like that on TV. And it has to be said, I think she likely does a nice job of perpetuating the worst sort of English attitudes towards Thai women.

I mean showing off the worst aspects of your culture and calling it talent is weak at best, self degridating at worst. I mean that would be like me getting up there and gangsta rapping to see how many curse words I can cram into a 30second rhyme or how fast I can run with a TV on my back. And worse, not being very good at either, as she kinda sucked IMHO.
Fookhaht
Reinforces a depressing stereotype of young Thai women. None of the three judges are responsible for their actions because they were still in a state of shock even while voting. You can tell by the lame comments they made. katana
The clip didn't show all of her act but it looked fun from here. One of the comments to the video is from a Thai girl complaining about the video casting Thai women in a bad light and hoping her next show will be something different and not leave people with the impression that Thai girls are only good at taking their clothes off. IanForbes
What did she actually DO? She took off some clothes, went in a covered box and changed into another outfit. Then she pushed a box around the stage. I'm still scratching my head. She has the average Thai figure and average looks. What other talents does she have? She obviously didn't display any on that stage. As others have already mentioned, she just portrayed a steriotypical portrait of Thai women. Or, attractive women everywhere. richard_smith237
Thought it was really funny, but in a 'Laugh At', not in a 'Laugh With' way.... And oh dear.... the UK stereotype of Thailand has just been reconformed on National TV by a Thai nonetheless.... I wonder what the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has to say about this (It's certainly more damaging to Thailands image than a couple of girls flashing their norks on Songkran)... DavidSL
Since when has Britain's Got Talent been a show about actual talent? It's always just been a parade of people who want to be on TV desperately. This girl provided 5 mins of laughs for the audience, so she'll be back. But yes, I do agree about the stereotype being perpetuated further. Can't be helped, though - walk around Thailand - is the stereotype so wrong? Since when has Michael McIntyre been a judge on this show?? I like him, I think he's naturally funny and has a quick wit - but this is just disappointing. I'm starting to see why people get really annoyed seeing him on TV. That crack about her name - "...Watching porn?!?!" and the audience laughing away stupidly - surely that's a little disrespectful?

ClockworkOranges
Bloody hell people lighten up! JohnC
why do they have the american from baywatch on a show about British talent? is he particularly popular in England? SteeleJoe
...I do agree about the stereotype being perpetuated further. Can't be helped, though - walk around Thailand - is the stereotype so wrong? Of course it can be helped. If you are a Thai woman You don't go on mainstream British TV and proceed to do strip routine (albeit a PG version) if you don't want to generate, perpetuate and reinforce the attitude that some Brits have about Thai women. Walk around Thailand? Maybe you mean walk around lower Sukhumvit or Pattaya and you need to recognize that there's are lot more to Thailand than that; when I walk around Thailand (in other provinces and even in most parts of Bangkok) I don't typically see women acting like some lame Nana Plaza reject. I'm not advocating hypocrisy or suggesting that Thais should lie about or deny one well known aspect of their country. But millions of Thai women (some of them wives or daughters of forum members no doubt) who are not sex workers go abroad and it's quite sad and unfair that they will inevitably be treated by ignorant Yobs (or their counterparts in other countries) disrespectfully based on where they are from (or at the very least assumptions and judgments will be made about them -- even by people who are otherwise decent folks). Personally, I'd be in favor of things that discouraged all that rather than the opposite.
