One of the keys has broken and fallen off my Asus Pro61sf notebook and it's beyond a simple home-repair. Does anyone know if I have to replace the whole keyboard component or just the individual key? Also, about how much is this likely to cost? I'll probably be getting it seen to somewhere like Big C in Phuket.

As an interim solution, I was thinking I could remap the key (it's H) to something else like the '[' key - any easy apps/programs to do that?

Don't know what the solution is in Phuket, but in Bangkok, at Pantip, I bought a replacement keyboard for my wife's Fujitsu laptop for just under 1000 baht. There were MANY shops selling replacement notebook/laptop keyboards there. Alternatively, you might find a laptop repair shop that has the right keytop from a bad keyboard, and just have them replace it. Generally it's the plastic clip on the bottom of the keytop that breaks, so you won't have to replace the whole keyboard.

Of course, without seeing it, no one can tell you the best fix. My experience with Big C/Tesco, etc., is that they are NOT technically competent, so better to go to a shop specializing in laptop repair.

Just my THB.02...

Good luck.

There is an Asus (Autherized Center) on Rama IV in Bangkok. I bought a new Asus last time I was stateside and when I arrived in Thailand one of the keys was loose, they switched it out in about 15 minutes. Everything covered by warrenty. Sorry don't know about anything in Phuket but you could always EMS it to Bangkok????

I've asked at a few IT places in Chiang Mai and none of them has a keyboard to fit my specific model. It doesn't matter to me too much now since I just downloaded an app that remaps the H key to one of the square bracket keys (which I almost never use anyway). Took about a week to train myself to hit the new key without having to think about it. Now I'll have to think twice before hitting H on any other keyboard. Maybe I'll just remap my desktop PC's H to the square bracket when I get back home.

The App was called 'Sharpkeys' in case anyone else ever needs it. Cheaper than replacing a whole keyboard for B1000+
