How To Regulate My Data Plan?

Featured Replies

I have the Samsung Galaxy (Cooper) Android. I use 1-2-Call as my service provider.

I go to the local cell phone shop and I pay separately for my phone minutes and my Data minutes.

I seem to be using way to much data time. I am obviously doing something wrong or I have some settings wrong.

Most of the time when i use the internet is through my Wi-fi at home.

- I keep of my Sync accounts(Gmail & Facebook) turned off.

- I keep the Auto-sync & background sync turned off.

- My GPS is always turned Off.

Why am I going through my data minutes so quickly?

PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

So do you have a monthly post-paid account?

Can you share the details of that plan?

Do you know how much data you use, in MB, per month?

Service providers LOVE post-paid subscribers. Seriously you might consider a pre-paid account, until such time as you understand your usage patterns.

There is an app. in the Market called Quick Settings, you can toggle mobile data on/off, and WiFi, and quite a few others settings, all from one screen, quite handy.

If you have free (or at home) WiFi you should turn WiFi on, and mobile data off.

There is another app. in the Market called Droid Stats; this app. allows you to monitor calls, SMS, data, set limits, notifications etc. Also handy.

You should look for a plan which includes some fixed amount of data, in MB rather than minutes or hours.

BTW GPS does not use data, battery yes, data no.

Hold down the power button on the right side, it should popup with some options (such as "Power Off", "Flight Mode", and "Data Transfer (or something like that"). You can use this Data option to toggle on/off the data services.

Turn the data service off when you are not using the internet, this way no background apps can be using up your data plan.

Settings = Wireless and networks = Mobile networks = Data enable ( uncheck when you're using wifi and not your edge / gprs package )

I got it all worked out now.

Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and time.

Here are some screen-shots of Quick Settings and Droidstats...I sometimes use a One-2-Call SIM, which has 25 hours of data (107 baht), and the first night I forgot to turn off mobile data, the next morning my plan was - 10 hours (this is a back-up SIM, I should switch plans).

It is much, much, much better to get a data plan based on volume (MB), rather than minutes/hours, that way you can leave your phone connected 7/24, and not be constantly turning data on and off.

Quick Settings is brilliant, IME.
