I have no connection to, or knowledge about, this puported "opportunity" - but it sure sounds good, for anyone involved in the jewelry or gems business.

But - it looks to me like a typical Thai pipe-dream - dressed up as a reality, when it's really just malarial swamps.

'Anybody know whether this project has any real chance of reaching fruition - say, within two to four years? 'Anybody know what this site looks like right now?

No real information only that turning Thailand into a 'Hub' of diamond and gem trade sounds typically Thai planning..

Nut cases, I wonder if Thailand thinks it could be the "hub" of the world with every trade in the next decade or two. LOL

It's definitely for real. Don't know how succesful it is, but one of Thailands largest jewelry manufacturing companies, STS Jewels, are located at gemopolis. There are also other jewelry manufacturers located there.

The naysayers don't like to hear things like that.

But yes, it's out there, on the way to the Banga-trad expressway, if you're getting from the Tap Chang toll booth from the north. Super location that even if it fails, I'm sure someone like Areeya, QH, LH, AP, etc. would be happy to take over and turn it into a neighborhood or townhome complex.

Yes, it is REAL! The government has launched a PROMOTION to sell gems to tourists. You can make 100-150% profit by RESELLING the gems back home. If everything is not ok they will offer a full REFUND. Sorry the Grand Palace is CLOSED today.

It is for real. I know Europeans and Indians who work at various manufacturing companies there. Can't say much about their famed outlet shop though.
