Best Compact Digital $250 Or Less

Featured Replies

I am in the market for an inexpensive ($250 or below) compact digital camera (I already own a D90, but it is not a "carry everywhere" kind of camera). My main considerations are (1) picture quality, (2) reasonable low light performance, and (3) quick response time (I realize that they are all slow, but I want as good as I can get). HD video would also be a nice feature. I have read that the Lumix FH25 is the best low end compact camera. The price is given on the internet as $150 to $180. But in Thailand, it is B10,000. The Canon Powershot SD 4000 IS and the Powershot A 3300 IS should also be options, but I have not priced them yet. Is one of these clearly better than the others? Is there a "gem" that I should consider that is better than these? Is the Lumix available anywhere for $250 or less? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest watching this skinny Chinese guy with an deep English accent on Utube. He does an in depth reviews, compare and field test most of the camera you know. I've learned a lot from this little guy and funny too. Just put in what ever camera Reviews, and you will find him. I think he's in Hong Kong. Sorry I can't remember his name. I can come back when I find out. Good luck.

The guy you refer to is called Kai and he does reviews for DigitalRev. Just search on DigitalRev in YouTube; very amusing and informative.

Personally, I don't think you are going to get much in terms of image quality, or photographer control, for $250. Pay a little more and look at the Lumix LX5, or the Olympus XZ-1 or the Canon S95.
