Phuket plans to introduce surveillance camera project as additional safety measures for residents and tourists.

During a weekly CEO meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Phuket Governor Udomsak Uswarangkura and attended by head officials, the surveillance camera project was discussed. The 120 million baht project, proposed by Phuket Police and the Software Industry Promotion Agency, or SIPA, Phuket branch, will have 120 cameras installed throughout the island using high speed internet which is now 90% laid out throughout the island.

Phuket Governor emphasized that the authority placed tourist safety as its top priority. Apart from natural disaster warning system, the surveillance project will reinforce the confidence. They are planned to be installed at major tourist locations like Patong. According to Mr Udomsak, the funds will come from local government and private sector.
